Hello

Am due to upgrade chains and found out about Pragmasis. I'm really impressed with them so am defo going to buy. Question is, I'm tempted to get a 16mm chain and lug it in a tail bag so I can secure my bike when I'm out other places. I've read this might be a bitch and could go for the 13mm instead.

I can only afford to buy one chain. The main question here is if I get the 13mm chain (lighter), would it be almost useless by way of thieves and bolt croppers? Is it better to lug the 16mm heavy arse chain but have peace of mind, or could we all get away with the 13mm?

As you can see from my signature, had the same love of my life stolen from me so am super paranoid about leaving it gift-wrapped to be stolen.

One love.

All you can do is make it as difficult as possible for some to half-inch your bike.

go for the biggest chain you can afford.

I read you on that one. Just being a bit of a sissy with lugging it around on tail and stuff. Hoping a tail bag will securely carry the bastard chain without slippy sliding off the tail end, or ripping seat cowl off... Mr. Green

I know, it probably will sit securely; I'm just a very paranoid person.

I'm sure people cry about carrying the chain before doing so.

Have you had a pillion, they weigh 8 times the fucking chain Laughing

Grab the biggest as Cansa says, make it as hard as possible, chain it through something other than the wheel though.

19mm Almax ftw though.

Awesome. Will do.

One problem, the c1h kwak has no where but the rear wheel to chain up. Kawasaki thought of everything about the motorbike except security when designing it.

I've got a 2m chain that's 8kg per metre.
No way I'd want to lug that about.
Especially with the 'other half' which is 1.5m.
2 1/2 to 4 stone on the back just from the chain for that lot!

So I wouldn't go for the biggest you can afford Smile.

I would consider where you're going to park it, where you'll attach it there and other matters.

If it's attached around the frame to some thin hollow railings, then a massive chain may not be a big help.

I have the 13mm Pragmasis chain as a carry about chain, and I'd say its a good mix of portability and security. Chained to an immoveable object, and teamed with a disc lock or 2 is a good combo in my eyes.

Fits under my seat, plus, the noose end option is a really handy thing to have. Thumbs Up

Surely it's her weight you want to worry about, not her height.

I regularly carry a 2m 16mm chain around, in a top box mind. Would definitely avoid the 13mm one. Set of 42" croppers will snip that in under a minute. Granted the 2m 16mm chain and padlock weighs in at around 10kg. It's certainly not light. I carried it in soft panniers for a while, but ran into issues of them going lop sided. In a tail pack, so long as it's strapped down enough so it doesn't move, I expect you'll be fine. If you're worried about weight, just opt for a 1.5m chain (if feasible).

TBF, going fora 13mm chain will only save you about 3kg (for 2m chain). Not worth it.

Au contraire. It'll save you 203kg, because you'll also have 200kg less motorbike to hulk around.

Ordered the 16mm chain; I'd rather deal with the weight instead of kick myself for getting a croppable 13mm if it did get stolen.

I wonder if anyone's been recently done for having an offensive weapon when carrying around a chain. When I was young and ran with less than salubrious company, that was always one of the reasons the police used to pull and search us.

I bought the 13mm chain 1.2m in length from Pragmiss as a carry around chain as that was the only realistic choice i had as it was the only chain to actually fit inside the seat compartment of my 04 R1.
The 16mm and 19mm whould not fit and getting a bag to put them resting on the seat didnt work as i had 3 of those bags and they all broke.

But for home i have the 19mm and the 16mm and the good thing with 04 R1 is that you can lock the chain through the swing arm.

13mm can be cut but wont cut as quick as the other crap thats about (a 2.5min estimated cut time vs 15 seconds is better)

if you can afford it get a tracker as well from www.tracker.co.uk so if the 13mm chain does get cut and the bike stolen you at least have a better chance of getting the bike back as well as maybe recover all the other stolen bikes that the theifs have taken

With Pragmasis you can get an 'anti pinch' pin and get a shorter chain possibly.

Well done on the 16mm - same here for going mobile, 19mm at home.

Frankly Paddy, I have never felt the urge to shag my Chain after a run on the bike but the Pillion aye 'gets it'.

In before, 'What if the pillion is a guy?'

He'll get it too. It is the Law, init?
