Rear wheel rumble?

A quick question as I am slightly puzzled as to what the problem may be. My bike is a 2006 CBR600RR and it has done 37k miles. Over the last two days I have noticed that while under mild acceleration there is what feel/sounds like a rumble from the rear wheel. When under gentle acceleration there is no noise.

Now the chain isn't particularly too tight or too slack. When I push the bike into the garage there is no noise coming from the rear wheel. So I would have thought that would rule out the bearings. I can't see anything loose that may be knocking it either.

So does anyone have any ideas?

You need to put the bike on the centre, paddock or axle stands so that you can spin the wheel freely. Listen for any grumbling noise.

Push the wheel round with your hand and feel is there's an notchyness.

Grab the wheel front to back and try and move it to the left and right. Repeat with the top and bottom of the wheel.

If it fails any of these tests, the bearings need replacing.

Aye sounds like a good plan, I'll give that a go soon. It wouldn't surprise me if it was the bearings as they haven't been changed from when I bought it in 06.

That's not very much miles to need bearings changed? Have you checked to see if the disk of if the wheel is out of alignment? Perhaps something wrong with the tyre?

A short hub bearing life only if the chain has never been run tight during any of those 37,000 miles.

Checked the bike out and it appeared to be the chain was too loose and hitting the swingarm Rolling Eyes

I've now adjusted it and the noise has stopped. The bearings on the bike are still fine no free play in them at all.

Ta for the help, just lack of maintenance on my part!
