Just wondered who wears a poppy and why they do it.
If not, then why not?

Me, I wear one.
Why, a few reasons, among which Grandfather and Father served in RN.

BTW I'm not a fan of this "if you're in the armed forces you're a hero" malarkey.
If you're in the armed forces then you're doing a job. It's a job with benefits and responsibilities. The guy who cleans the sewers is just doing a job.
That said in doing a job there may be heroic moments. Then that could apply to other jobs as well.

I guess one of my other reasons is with the poppy there's an implied thanks for doing a job that I would not do.

Thumbs Up

I wear one. Have to as I also lay a wreath on behalf of St John Ambulance, at my local Remembrance Sunday.

I get a bit put out by it being help at a church and 'thanking god' for the millions who've lost their lives in pointless wars.

Avoid " 'elp for 'eros " like the plague. Load of over-weight hoodie wearing wannabe's rattling a bucket in your face every other week!

Yep, it is the only "forces" charity I support, I always take a bit of pride in wearing a poppy, and if I see old boys selling poppies and I am already wearing one, they will get some change in their pot and a thank you.

Help for "Heroes" wouldn't get a penny off me, they are just chuggers doing it for chairdee, trying to be a new age poppy appeal and class themselves as heroes, and helping "heroes" getting injured in a wa....job, doesn't make you a frigging here, it makes you injured at work.

I do.

I'd rather burn my money than give it to Help for Heroes though.

I wear one, and as with op, not for the every soldier is a hero rubbish considering in so many jaunts now they are no better than badly kitted out mercenaries.

I suppose for me it's in remembrance of those who throughout history didn't want to be there and who were forced to fight and die while the powers that be played at being gods.

I wear one, for the most part in memory of my grandparents who served in RN and RAF in the second world war, and then for all the other fellas that had no choice but to go and fight.

I have a poppy pin badge, I can never seem to keep hold of a paper one for long! I do throw some money into the tin every year as well.

I do wear it with pride. In a world in which it seems that nobody cares about anyone else any more, it's nice to remember some of those who did.

I wear one. My grandad flew Halifax bombers during WW2 and was the sole survivor after a crash during a training flight. My father in law to be also fought in the Falklands so I wear it in both memory of my grandad and as a mark of respect.

I used to but don't bother any more, it's meaningless balls. I suspect a tiny percentage of any combatants were motivated by altruistic virtue, and even altruism at its best is ultimately self-serving.

Anything outside of our existential monkeysphere to which we give importance is an exercise in delusion, an activity we indulge in an attempt to give meaning to a pointless reality.

I don't wear a poppy but I do like the Armed Forces.

They secure my nice happy cuddly lifestyle in which I happen to arbitrarily be hundreds of times more wealthy than those dudes in those other countries.

I will always put money into the box of the RBL.

Men were made of a different metal in those days.

No matter how shit your life is, you aren't sat in an 8ft trench of mud, rats and rotting corpses. Your clothes aren't infested with blood sucking lice and you are not faced with being blown to shit by barrages of artillery fire that can last for days. That's all before you hear the whistle to go over the top and get ripped to shreds by barbed wire and cut down with machine gun fire.
