We have mice in our block of flats and I keep seeing them scurry across the floor, is it likely that could kill one with an airsoft gun if I am accurate enough to hit it?

Nah, you'll likely just injure it. Most are really weak, even the good ones are weak.

Set mouse traps, humane or catchy-killy, either is better than breaking one of its legs and letting it starve to death.

It's 340fps whatever that means.

I've seen a trap that uses a bucket and a plastic plate to trap them, may give that a go.

As above, you'll probably just wing it or hit the body which is soft and unlikely to cause death.

Really you'll need something that will penetrate, so a proper air pistol is going to be better but if you miss you're gonna need to get the wood/wall filler out to sort the holes.

Traps, or borrow a cat.

Probably not unless you get a headshot, the pellets break quite quick on the skull, even a small £30 air pistol .177 will be 100x better than a £300 M4A1 at killing a rat/mouse.

340 FPS isn't bad but considering the basic air pistols are 6ftlb, you will have upwards of 500 FPS, and even they don't give a clean kill everytime.

The flat is rented so I don't really want to start taking chunks out of things and for the same reason a cat isn't really an option. We do have traps in place, both humane capture traps and poison boxes, neither seems to be doing much good though.

Used the humane traps in an old garage before. The minute we started putting peanut butter in they were rushing in like boxing day shoppers.

Maybe just odd luck but we went from about 1 a week to 8 in 3 days Laughing

Not a lot on its own, means the BB can travel at 340 feet per second, but... without the BB mass that was achieved at it doesn't mean much.

Anyway, no matter what you are using I'd put money on it getting injured then hiding to die slowly.

Tried baiting with peanut butter?

Don't use poison. They crawl off into inaccessible places to die and then you're stuck with the smell of decomposing mice for weeks on end. Sick

Use standard snap traps, they kill quickly and humanely. Bait them with peanut butter as above and place them round the edges of rooms. Thumbs Up

Airport guns only have a ME of 1 ft/lb, so useless against anything but paper. And the comment regarding wanting penetration is really quite incorrect, as long as there is a good amount of energy transferred small quarry will be toast. On larger quarry penetration becomes more critical.

You'd have more chance with a blowpipe.

And even 340FPS is nothing if the peelet is less than .5 grams. It will have no effective mass to do much harm.
Probably as humane as that 'sticky glue trap' stuff.

You're right I was working in a London Underground station one night and a cheeky little fekker came running along the corridor past my feet. I gave it a little 'flick' with my boot toe and killed it stone dead.

The oldest type are the best, set at 90 degrees to the wall.
A bit of stale bread is good bait.

+ toothpicks to mount their heads, as a warning to the survivors.

Or peanut butter and snappy-traps.

Yeah pretty much, I often use a little .410 shotgun for rats/mice...maybe not in a house though!

For anyone interested, here's a link to a ME calculation.

If you got a perfect head shot at 340fps with standard airsoft bb, then you would stun it enough to end it quickly with a boot, but it would have to be a headshot, quite hard on a mouse at a few feet with a gun prone to the effects of hop up.

I've put 4 pellets or so into one rat before to kill it, first was a miss and went through his spine causing him to get really angry, second hit him in the face and stunned him, third was top of the head and still had a twitch and run before giving up, 4th was to confirm.

You've got to be accurate.

And lets face it, just easier to put a green wine gum on a mouse trap on their run and let them go that way.

You can kill a mouse with an Airsoft gun but only if you use the gun to twat it over the head.

Quite possibly the most sensible suggestion in this thread so far. Laughing
