Hi, well I've done it. 48th birthday yesterday and today I've booked my theory test. Its not until 17th August so plenty of time to practice.
Spoken to Tamworth motorcycle training and they pointed me in right direction.
So my journey to my full unrestricted license begins. Still very nervous but excited at the same time.

I'll keep you all posted.

thanks

Neil

Hi Neil, welcome to the forum! Sounds like you'll be riding just in time for winter then Razz

There are some good online practices of the hazard perception test which I think is the most difficult part (although really not that difficult) of the theory for people who have already passed their driving tests years ago (I'm just making a wild assumption there!). I used the AA one:

https://www.theaa.com/aattitude/games/hpt.jsp

Best of luck Thumbs Up

Welcome to the forums mate

DSA motorcycle theory dvd is very good - contains a load of mock hazard tests and also all possible questions on the theory [if you get this years verson of course].

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Official-Dsa-Theory-Test-Motorcyclist/dp/0115531971/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1373640727&sr=8-2&keywords=motorcycle+test+dvd

Think thats the newest one - sell it back when you finish, lose a couple of quid if that Thumbs Up

Good luck.

Find yourself a large car park when you have booked your Mod 1. Go round in circles and figutes of 8, practice speeding up the controlled stops and you should be fine.

There is a PDF diagram on the net giving the distances and requirements for the Mod 1 so you can lay some cans down to ensure you have the right practice.

I took my test when i was 48, done the lot in three months and self taught with a run out with the local bike school before my Mod 2

Just thought I'd let you guys know....I've taken and passed my cbt and theory test and this Saturday i start my Mod 1 training. Can't wait...although because of work commitments (and no holiday left) I'm training on consecutive Saturdays and then taking test on a Friday afternoon. Not ideal i know but should be ok.

I'll update again in few weeks

Thanks

Neil

I sat on a bike for the first time in October 2011, had a full license by Dec 13th. Now that was Winter riding! With no experience and the usual newbie mistakes, it taught me to take it easy at exactly the time when I needed to be doing that.
Good luck with it all, Neil. Keep us updated with your thoughts and progress. Very Happy

Good luck. Let us know how you get on. I start my mod one training in about a week and a half, then should have an idea of how many lessons I need before the test.

Yesssss, passed my mod 2 today javascript:emoticon('Laughing') no faults!
Amazed myself that I've done it. Can't wait to start looking for bikes. Have read loads about which bike is best but as Phil my instructor said just go and have a sit on a few maybe a few test rides and see which one fits.
This is a very happy day

Thanks

Neil

I passed my full test just in time to do a 50th birthday trip -- Yorkshire Dales, Lake District and the Peak District in one whirlwind week.

Of course, I look nothing like as old as that. I could pass for 48, maybe even 47, easy.

Excellent work. Thumbs Up

I'd venture to suggest that you might plan to change bikes fairly frequently until you find one that you like. It took me a few goes to figure out that - if you can get past the silly offroad pretensions - "adventure" bikes make quite a bit of sense. Wink
