So what's the opinions then people - Apple or Samsung, and why?
It's partly to settle a rather long running argument I'm having....

The answer to the question of life, the universe and everything is 42. Sadly, no-one knows what the question actually is.

I've got a Samsung and it's awesome. Never owned an Apple but played with a few and just don't like them, nothing to do with the usual gripes people have about Apples software control I just don't like the way it does stuff and swipes and things.

Now I find the opposite - Apple are simple and intuitive to use, Samsung seem, well, lumpy somehow. Although the recent version of the map program that Apple had was absolute shite!

I find phones to be a very individual thing regarding preferences.

I have an iPhone as my personal phone and a Samsung galaxy s3 supplied by my company.

I can't stand the Samsung. Nothing in my opinion is intuitive, just can't get on with it, had a HTC desire z previous and felt the same.

My iPhone on the other hand I find much nicer to use, much more intuitive (to me anyway) to use and is my preferred phone.

Not an apple fanboy at all, just find it a better device for the way I use a phone.

Samsung - cos it's big, iPhones are to small by today's standard IMO.

the answer to this question changes quicker than English weather.

If I was to buy a phone right now first choices would be nexus5 or the LG G2. I liked the samsung hardware but not the software. Much prefer the vanilla android experience. Prefer android over for a few reasons. I like to tweak. I love widgets. Feel like I can accomplish more with android even I though it may not be as intuitive or a flashy. I also feel too restricted with apple products

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2.

But I'm very seriously considering going back to an old Nokia brick of some kind soon.

If you have £300 or more to spend and you buy anything other than the Nexus 5 off contract, you're an idiot.

If you have less than £150 to spend and you buy anything other than the Moto G, you're an idiot.

I've got an iPhone. Recently bought my daughter a Nokia. It's better than my iphone and about 1/5th the price. If Nokia keep dishing out top phones for £100 then over the next 2 years they'll really increase their market share by picking up kids on their first smartphone.

It's so not these days.

I mainly use my phone for Internet, rarely call anyone but a 7 inch tablet is too big and won't do calls/texts.

ZTE all the way.

Had an Skate and something else big. Both lasted ages. One I smashed under a forklift (doh!). The others still going. My partner has a ZTE Open (firefox phone), and I now have a ZTE Grand (5 inch android for less than 100 quid).

2 reasons for me to stick with ZTE, 1 - The are cheap, 2 - They are open, no lock ins, no contracts, and even come with bootloaders ready to flash other roms.

Cant stand Apple, either the company or its products. Have never found them intuitive. Samsung are OK. Just not a brand I buy anymore.

I just got a Sony Xperia SP a couple months ago, Seems like a good phone to me at least Razz
Previous Blackberry I had was rubbish!
Not had an iPhone, HTC or Samsung.. always had Nokia's previously but not the Smart Phone ones

Got it on O2 Refresh.. £300 for the phone apparently but for £10 a month @ 24 month contract (£240 total cost) plus my contract of £10(+£2 VAT) a month (discounted to £7 for being a student)
Unlimited Texts
600 Minutes to any network
750mb of Data

Total cost is £10+£7(+£1.40 VAT) = £18.40 a month.
Or you can choose to pay off the phone early and just pay your contract of £10 a month

Apple for me

Yes its the most expensive and far more restrictive than other smartphone operating systems.

But it's a great quality piece of kit that has never let me down.
Does exactly as it's told Laughing
Owned my iPhone 4 since launch and based on the experience, I would happily buy another iPhone.
However Apple at the moment are pushing out a new phone every year with no significant new features. I'll upgrade when there is something worth upgrading for Thumbs Up

No brand allegiance for me, that said I wont own an iPhone because they are merely a smart phone for simple people, in old phone technology they are one of those phones with the big buttons on to help old people.

Samsung no ta, they are similar to Apple but slightly more sophisticated, but they fill their phones full of shit and get a mong to program them and how the function.

So I stick with a Google Nexus, because I want a phone that isn't retarded in its use, has been thought about and has been built properly.

HTC Nexus One was awesome
Samsung Nexus S (2) was awesome
Galaxy Nexus is awesome
LG Nexus 4, which is what I currently have is very good, though I prefer the shape of the Nexus as it suffers from "Galaxy" proportions where you feel a bit like Sloth from the Goonies trying to hold it.

And I get Android updates before anyone else (people who don't have a Nexus) which is a bonus, though it does get annoying getting asked what phone you have all the time.

Or buy a Moto G (£135 sim free) and get a sim from Giffgaff or similar. £10 on giffgaff gets you 500 min, unltd texts and 1gb internet right now.

Edit: Fellow Nexus 4 user here. Can't believe they were actually being sold at £160 for a while. I got mine when it was £230 and it was still a bargain.

Part of me should have waited for the Nexus 5 because I know it will be amazing, but I needed a phone there and then.

Bonus being I got upgraded to an iPhone 5, which I never even opened for £200 below it's actual value, and I was still able to buy a Nexus 4 and have a £100 left for a hooker.....and still came out of it with a better phone than an iphone 5.

Been quite nice having the misses on her iPhone 5 (first "smart" phone) she wont stray from Apple because they are so good, but constantly admits my phone is better Laughing

Got an Acro S at the moment and quite liking it.
Supposedly waterproof and has Ant + sensor (which I've not tested yet).
Want to get a Z1 when I've got a bit of cash - almost did, but Orange are useless. But so far the Acro S is doing me fine.

Htc one x here and love it. Only gripe is battery life.

I've heard a few horror stories about the nexus 5 having shocking battery life, can anyone confirm this?

HTC One here, love it. I had the Desire S before and that was good too Thumbs Up

I don't get on with Iphones for whatever reason and the Samsung S3's that a lot of folk at work have got appear to be a bit flimsy, always cracking screens.
