what is IRC chat as opposed to live chat which empty, and how do u access IRC,( I know, probably a thick question )

Internet Relay Chat.

to access it you need an IRC client such as Mirc. this allows you to connect to a chat room ( the same one as linked to above) and chat, send files etc.

basically IRC is now hugely outdates and has been superseeded by messenger programs such as MSN messenger or other browser based chat clients.

Live chat is now linked with the IRC room, so you can talk to people in one using the other.
