Hi there, got myself a pair of low current heated grips for my YBR 125 as the winter's drawing in. Just wondering the best way to remove the old grips, as they are the stock grips, and not sure if they're fitted with glue. I didn't particularly want to cut them, but I don't have access to compressed air as most tutorials recommend, so what's the best way to remove old grips?

Carefully wiggle a fine screwdriver between the grip and bar as far as you can without forcing it. Insert the straw of a can of WD40 alongside it in the resulting gap and give it a squirt. Advance the screwdriver further and add more WD40. Keep going until you're all the way through.

Remove the screwdriver and straw, twist the grips back and forth and they should pull off.

Cheers, will give it a go tomorrow, just need to find the darn straw, somehow I always manage to lose 'em.

I tried stinkwheels method on my divvy when I fitted my heated grips, I ended up sticking the screwdriver through the grip still and cut them off.

Have always used this method and for putting them back on I've always used lots of electrical tape and some wd40 to slide the grip over

I have some grip glue that should do the trick for putting the new ones on, especially as they're heated so will be expanding and contracting.

Just be careful with them on the YBR the battery is not very strong, i forgot to turn mine off my old YBR and it drained the battery in 20min. My problem was not taking the normal ones off, its putting the heated grip on (oxford) on the throttle side which can be a pain. The inner diameter of the grips was too small to fit over that white plastic twist grip due to the grooves on the surface. In the end i had to use a stanley blade to smooth the surface of twist grip assembly so the grips could go over. I also glued them for good measure Smile.

I'm gonna connect it to the ignition circuit, so I can't leave it on! But I just got a new battery for the bike anyway so shouldn't be a concern whilst the bikes running Smile

iirc Stinkwheel did a good tutorial on fitting relay to connect stuff like this to a bike.
Found it, pictures and everything - have a look here - How to wire in an electrical device using a relay..
Didn't realise it was 3 years ago Shocked

There's also his Symtec heated grips. Fitting etc..

I'm filling up here. It's my first and only post to achieve "legendary" status" Crying or Very sad Very Happy

It only took me 3 1/2 years and over 20, 000 posts.

same as a pedal bike

stick a screw driver down the grip to open up a gap an spray something sticky or slimey in

washing up liquid works if you cant find WD40 etc

to get em back on spray hair spray onto the bars, it will stay wet for a bit to let you get the grips back on but will dry tacky to will stick the grips on

Kapesh....

Hair spray is better than WD40 for putting them on.

Im not gonna lie i wish i connected it to a relay on my old YBR would have saved a lot of hassle Smile
