Newbie hi, sounds like another teen school drama!
In reality, just a first post from a new biker Very Happy

Typical umm and ahhring for several years until 40 got too close and the local traffic (Bristol) became too unbearable (honest!). I'll be truthful though, first and foremost I just wanted a bike, the commuting benefits will be a bonus.

Having never even sat on a moped, ever, I went from CBT a few weeks ago to daily commuting on my new CBF. I'm planning on a full bike test next year, but happy to cut my teeth for 6-12 months on the CBF rather than doing DAS. I know my comfort zone. Besides, I'm not sure what style of bike I'm likely to go for so chalking up some miles whilst I decide will probably be useful.

I've already taken lots of useful info from the site so thanks from a lurker. Hopefully I'll get to contribute as the experience builds.

You wanna see the Bristol ring road up by the M32 each morning. It's fucking awful. It took me a whole 45 minutes to get to work this morning from Bath....

I know, I travel that way anti-clockwise most days. Travel times are ridiculous and they're still throwing new houses up.

If you were comfortable on the CBT I would say just go DAS. Get the test out of the way and then get a bike that has a bit more power than a 125. The new 600cc market is really picking up and trust me, you'll appreciate the extra bit of power when it comes to city traffic.

Pip pip. Decent enough way to start.

You'll have read the advice to drown the CBF in ACF-50, yes?

True. No-one's ever waited and found that the DSA made the test easier. Only the opposite. In OP's position I'd ride the 125 through the winter and do my DAS in the spring. The extra cost of buying a 600 in a seasonal market should at least be partly offset by the extra cash from selling a 125 in a seasonal market.

Point of Parliamentary procedure: mod 1 did get slightly easier under Mike "the bike" Penning. A better ordering, a "sighting" lap, and a wider exit from the bend.

There's nothing that I'm aware of in the works though, so point taken.

You assume the point of lights is to ease the traffic.

There are several roundabouts with lights on them round our way. Every so often they go on the blink. Most of them flow much more freely when the lights are off.

Did the ACF thing at the weekend Wink although I'm now doubting that I really gave it a good soaking...

Second week of commuting and the muscle memory is starting to come. I probably didn't expect to feel like a complete L-plater if I'm honest, but the poor gear changes, approaching junctions thinking more about the mechanics of riding instead of the road are all nostalgia moments from learning to drive.

But, filtering past a colleague on the ring road today, 5 mins after we left a meeting was priceless Very Happy

Hi Mate,
I'm also new on here, great forums though, loads of good info... I thought about getting a 125 for a few months first but decided to just go for it, just passed my Mod 1, hopefully taking and passing Mod 2 soon... I was a bit wary about going from a 125 to a bigger bike, being totally new and late in years to it like yourself, but honestly, the bigger bike is loads better, it feels more stable, I used a Honda CBF 600 for the Mod 1, and will use it for the Mod 2, great bike to ride though... Smile
Good luck though, and maybe I'll pass you on the road sometime! Smile
