So the summer touring season is over and we`ve all put our bikes to bed.

What have you lot got planned for next year?
It`s only November and I`m already bored and wanting to go on a trip Shocked .
I`m to much of a pussy to go out in the winter on a mini tour, I ride bikes for pleasure, not to prove how hard I am.
I`m still going to have a few trips out for the day, but overnighters for me start next year now.

So what about you lot? , got any plans?

Me, I keep talking about LE-to-JOG in 24 hours for no other than because I want to, I promise not to ask for money for charradiee Thumbs Up

I`ve also been thinking about north west Welsh Wales or north west Scotishland.

Living in East Anglia as I do, I have also thought about a tour round Kent on the old Superdream.

The other year I decided to do some unusual routes by sticking pins in maps and/or getting weird associations.

So I decided to do USA in the UK.
Rode to New York (Lincolnshire).
Final destination is near RAF Coningsby, home of the RAF Memorial Flight. So for me that was worth a visit. Midweek journey so more likely to find the planes in the hanger (weekends = airshows/appearances).

Next year I'll see if I can get a list of odd and unusual places and do a round trip. I will not be doing it for charity and I will not require any sponsorship for fuel.

Is the touring season over? My wife and I are going to the Isle of Wight next weekend. Yes, the weather will probably be shit, but the hotels and roads will be empty. Smile

Next spring we're going to do a week of Devon and Cornwall for a (much delayed) 25th wedding anniversary trip, then Ireland in the summer.

I liked Cornwall and I personally found that the further south and west I went , the better I liked it?
Southwest England out of season and away from the grockle drivers sounds like a good idea. Smile

Me and a mate are planning on doing Spain next September, although nothing more than arrive via Santander and back via Calais has been planned, hoping it can be achieved comfortably in 5/6 days, I know a few guys on here have done similar so will scan through old threads for pointers on places to visit and stuff.
Can't fecking wait if I'm honest !

I wouldn't do it in 5/6 days, I'd give yourself more time.

We were there for 10 days, ended up Santander > San Seb > somewhere in France > then back in Spain > Andorra > Huesca > Santander.

We didn't really see the sights, we did however... ride... Laughing

I'm doing Portsmouth - Le Havre - Catalunya - MotoGP - Santander by chinese C90 copy in June.

Then in December I'm potentially shipping to Malaysia and riding home, not really sure yet - Depends how the funds / job / house go, that might be put back a year.

Hmm... A bimble around the island, stopping for lunch, followed by pool, sauna and dinner... A few undead zombies to dodge. Sadly, that sounds attractive to me. Embarassed

(Yes, I'm that old. Old enough to have been married for 25 years and spawn five grown children. I even have a granddaughter, though I can't quite believe that myself.)

After realising that I have only done just over 2k miles this year I feel ashamed.

Next year I feel the need to visit Devon and Cornwall again. Just a week doing it B&B Places I have already been but wouldn't mind going again.

Going Portsmouth to St Malo, roughly following the Atlantic coast then zig-zagging through the Pyrenees to Barcelona for above mentioned MotoGP. Then through France and into the Alps. No route planned but home from Amsterdam to Newcastle at the end of 3 weeks. Can't wait

Hope to get some 'travelling' out of my system next summer, if all goes to plan it'll be:

Calais - Nurburgring (couple of nights there)

Down through the Black Forest to the Alps

A week mountain biking in Morzine

Down to near Genoa in Italy for a week there with the girlfriend

Along the south of France through Monaco etc to Barcelona

Then up through Andorra and the Pyrenees to Santander for the ferry back

Any other places that are must dos? I'm hoping to manage this lot for £2000 sleeping in hostels and camping, does that seem realistic?

Plymouth - Santander out
Zeebrugge - Hull return

Pyrenees - Carcassonne - Tarn Gorge - Gorge du Verdon - Route Napoleon - Route des Grande Alpes then probably back up through the Vosges or Black Forest Cool

Would you recommend ? We were thinking the cheaper option of the comfy chair and a few beers to aid sleep...

I know people will say MTFU, but the constant disturbance of people in the room full of reclining chairs coming & going, snoring, farting, arguing & fighting will soon make you realise that cheap skating & not getting a cabin isn`t always the best option.
Get the cabin, have somewhere to escape the crowd & to rest, shower, and even somewhere to stash your riding kit & change into more comfortable clothes allowing you to relax knowing your gear be relatively safe & secure.

Above all .............Its a holiday & not an endurance test

We paid for chairs.

You'll never get a wink of sleep in there.

Ended up sleeping in the breakfast area on their sofas, slightly scary when you wake up surrounded by people with dribble hanging out of your mouth, a sore neck, a hangover and morning wood. Laughing

I jest, it was alright, but I would book a cabin if I was to return. It was cold on the ferry, no duvets for the lounge chairs, also people just take your chair, its a free for all in there Sad

Also when you do eventually find your seat free, some turnip is sleeping on the floor where your feet go.

When you do nod off, someone opens the curtain so the blinding sunshine comes in.

Get a room/bring a sleeping bag and pillow on deck with you and sleep in the food court.

In the past on P&O ferries I`ve been booted out of the "reading room" for snoring like a twat, & found myself in the play room ball pool .......all after too many beers.
