Sorry about first post being here, I used to have an account but lost my email due to being inactive on it.

Hey there. I used to go uni and left in May this was 2 years ago, but because I left early apparently (even though all the exams had finished) I got an overpayment of student loans. Now I've been paying this off (at £5 a month, not much but I was paying it).

However I've received a letter saying that I didn't make payment; the money was in the account they just didn't take it. Now they are saying I owe £2.5k an if I don't pay it before 25th Nov they are sending it to a debt collection company. I don't have the money at hand I'm not flush with cash.

Moved in with a uni friend this month an don't want them send anyone out to the house (don't want to ruin my rep).

Just after advice what do I do, I can afford the payment of £5 still for now then up it once I get a new job Question

So what do I do need help badly Sad

Get in touch with them ASAP and arrange a new payment plan. They won't expect it all in one go and if it goes to court, unless you happen to have the cash in the bank, you would only have to make minimal payments so they have nothing to lose by negotiating payments with you directly.

https://www.stepchange.org/

It's linked to your NI number so unless you leave the country (and probably EU) they'll get you Thumbs Down

Loads of people when they apply for finance just whack any old number in because they don't know their own then moan when they don't get their loan on time because they've put in John Smith, 94, dead rather than their own Laughing

Is this from the Student Loans Company? I'm surprised they actually know how much you owe them seeing as when I called up to pay off the balance they could only estimate how much I had to go. They still took money off me after that, I have a cheque here from them (finally).

They are really helpful on the phone though, call them and chat through your options. Make sure you note down the date, time of call, name of the person you spoke to and details of any agreement. Get them to send you a letter with it all in, too.
