BMW Power Socket query

Someone gave me this last night, saying they thought it would fit my bike, and let me power accessories.

It was dark in the carpark last night, couldn't find where it went. Today, I looked in my manual this morning, and after a search found what I assume is the power socket? Doesn't fit of course.

Do these have particular name?

I want to be able to plug my phone in, so I can charge it on the go, and use the sat nav facility / and or the garmin sat nav, both which have USB chargers. Not sure what cable/wire I need?

I think that is the diagnostic socket for your bike.

I'm not sure what you have photographed in the first pic but to charge your phone etc you will need a 12v socket sometimes called a cigarette lighter socket it should come with two wires (positive and negative)

oh, okay, can't find the power socket, apparantley there is one fitted as standard, the manual diagram shows one, can't find it though

Dunno about your thumper, but my GS has a Hitler-DIN power socket to the left of the ignition barrel, with a flappy cover over it.

It's a silly fiddly little thing, so I've put a proper Chuchillian lighter socket up on the bars as well.

What you were given looks like the BMW plug that you attach accessories to.
You will need the corresponding BMW socket somewhere on your bike.
That socket could possibly be connected to the accessory power output that is possibly the green connector in your second pic.

As said above, the BMW socket is not the same as cigarette lighter type socket (and plugs). However, they are considered more secure.

FWIW the BMW G650GS Serãto page list the poser outlet as a £40 factory fitted extra.
So your bike might not have one fitted.
Although I'd be surprised if given the option a BMW buyer would have said no.

I am a BMW Poseur, all BMWs have the power socket somewhere on the 'outside' of the bike on the left.

Usually under a wee flap. They supply power outside of the CANBUS so anything connected and switched on will draw power.
You will deflate the battery if left on with the engine off.

Look under the seat edge or near the area infront of where your shin would be.
