Errr.

May have discovered that I am meant to disclose incidents that occurred whilst I was driving company cars to my own car insurance company.

Only finding this out as some-one on another forum has had their insurance declared as void after an accident as they hadn't declared a small incident to the insurance company.

Notwithstanding that it is rather cute that insurance companies investigate this after an accident and not at quote stage, when I ring up my insurance company later on today to declare two incidents is there a possibility it would void my existing cover, or would I just have to pay an additional premium?

I can't even remember the date of one of the incidents as it was in 2011 and was just a little dink against a car in car park that my previous employer's insurance paid out on.

Thanks,

They'll either cancel or give you a much larger premium to pay.

If you're lucky you'll just have to pay more to cover the increased premium but they may cancel.

I got insurance yesterday and while on hold the robot said, "insurers share information and if any information given is found to be false ..."

BOLLOCKS why can't I give them my name and DOB and address, all insurance should bring my history up. Especially with BikeSure (IME) I've got a car and another motorbike insured with them! (car is Adrian Flux which is BikeSure I found out).

They'll take your money then if you crash and then they find out, they keep your money even though the contract was void!

"have you ever had insurance declined or cancelled?"

Lube up and hope they want to charge you an additional premium rather than cancelling your policy. Thumbs Up

Hmmmm.

This is looking trickier than I thought. Plain ignorance here, I had nothing to gain by not declaring as I already had one private accident declared anyway.

I just ran a couple of quotes with my existing insurer online, one of which is as I have it all setup at the moment and one with the additional claims and it is £20 more expensive for the year. So not exactly a bank breaker which is making my ignorance even more frustrating.

What part of "all claims, accidents or losses" confused you? Thinking

Yes, disclose everything. There's little point in buying insurance that won't pay out.

Looks like I've been a massive doofus. Feel really guilty right now, I had assumed (stupidly) as I was on a company group wide insurance policy I therefore wouldn't be personally responsible for a claim.

I'm not sure what's worse, ringing up the insurance company or admitting it to BCF lol

So you're saying ALL insurance is pointless then? Wink

I only have insurance because the law demands it.

I doubt they'll cancel it, just add amend your policy to one that's undoubtedly more expensive.

The annoying thing is I've only had one crash, nearly four years ago, that I have to declare on my car AND bike insurance.
Fortunately for me, Admiral don't count claims over 3 years old and whoever I insured my bike with don't count claims if it wasn't on a bike.
Accident wasn't my fault, third party spun and hit me, yet I still had to pay around £200 per year extra for it.

I had a collision in a company-owned vehicle a few years back, which I declare.

The insurers cover it nicely with "Have you had any accidents or made any claims...", so it becomes largely irrelevant whether or not you made the claim or your employers did.

That said, the insurers tend to ask "Was it a claim under this policy?" or "Did you lose your No Claims Bonus?", which I can answer no to, so it doesn't affect my premium much.
