So I got a cheap set of used Renntec crash bars for the CB500.
This is based on Murphy's Law* that if I have them fitted I will not need them.

Just need a bit of advice fitting them. It was a little dark last night when I was seeing how they'd fit.

They came partly assembled. However, looking at the Renntec image I'm missing the long bar in the centre of the crash bits. What is this?

https://www.renntec.co.uk/hres/REN10079B.jpgimage from Renntec site.

There's also some box sections which I think connect near the footpegs. Can't see this really but as said was awkward last night. Can anyone explain fitting? Thanks.

Reading through old posts I see garth removed some from his winter hack last year. I too was thinking about the stick on engine protectors but the Renntec ones came up on eBay and I put in an offer that was accepted.

Thumbs Up

* there may be other names for this theory, Sod's Law springs to mind.

the look quite like the gs500 ones,
i dont think you actually need the bar that goes from one side of the frame to the other, mine certainly didnt,
but i have seen it fitted to other bikes,
if all else fails and you need it, you can pick up threaded rod from b&q for quite cheap

There a game to fit

First see if the front engine mount will come out without braking the engine or bending the frame The long bolt or stud is well known for sizing

If this is OK put the new long Stud in it place
Take the side panels off the rear bit fit the silver brackets around the square ish frame rails The left covering the Air filter, I check it is good as the bars have to come off to access
The round fitting go to the lower frame rails
Put it all in place with the bolts finger tight before tightening anything
I put lots copper slip on the bolts you need to get them out fro servicing
