Well i've found an engine hopefully, its a guy who races in the Hornet cup, he said he bought the engine as a runner last year, and hasn't used it since. He said he was looking for about 200 quid for the engine, as thats what he bought it for.

Is there anything to look out for when buying a secondhand engine, i know i cant see it running, but any bits that could be damaged in a crash.

My dad is a bit wary of me buying it thinking, hes trying to rip me off, and i could be buying a non runner, and i'm paying too much for it, he said i should offer 100 quid and see what he says?.

Any help would be appreciated.

ps - i'm going to pick it up at race meeting at snetterton at the weekend, if anyone wants to go with me and view it Wink .

Thanks again.

Oh, by the way, he said it's just the basic lump, no generator cover,clutch cover, started motor etc.

Could i get the price down more, because it doesnt have these?

Thanks.

Those are normally the bits which would get scuffed up in the event of a crash. Ask him why he is selling it without those. Whats the previous history of the engine (age, milage and all that stuff)? Does it have the engine number on it still?

I would be very wary of it as it sounds to me like it has been raced and crashed which is why he has unbolted all the bits which get marked when the bike is crashed. See what he says when you ask him why he is selling it without them.

hi there can you call me again, as i have a engine for you in good condition with no problems,

Thats what he quoted me, then i rang him up and asked him about it, which i have said above.

Another guy off of the Hornets Nest, has an engine which he has taken the gearbox out of. He's got some pics for me, and says he wants around the 100 quid mark for it.

The engine -> https://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/chunky666/engine%20pics.htm

Shall i wait to see the first engine at snetterton, before enquring more about this one.

Thanks
