If I cancel my insurance I won't get my NCB so if I change everything (apart from myself obviously) about it, will it still count? So the bike, the type (tpo to tpft), license (learner/none to A2), etc then pay the difference. I was going to cancel and go to another insurer but considering I won't get NCB I'll try and stick with my current one but does it work if you change everything?

Yes, it's still the same policy.

Good to know! Hopefully they give me a good enough quote compared to the best ones I have found at the moment.

Do you also know how they calculate the difference? Is it just for the months left and the remainder that you've already paid for goes towards the extra that you have to pay? E.g. if it's say £500 but will be £1000 but have only been insured for 6 months, how would they work it out?

It'd be £750 I will have paid in total come the end of the policy, right?

Pro-rata to the expiry date of the policy

New premium - Old premium = annual difference

Annual difference / 365 x number of days until expiry = pro rata additional premium due

Be careful though - some 125 insurers only insure 125's and not people with full licences, so it's not always a case that you can just ' switch it over'

This is spookily like your test thread.

The answer is "it depends, you'll have to ask". Nobody except your underwriter and broker can give you a definitive answer, especially as you haven't told us who they are.

Be careful about declaring that your new bike is restricted, as they may hear that as "modified". I'm not saying don't do it, just... don't volunteer any more information than you're asked, and phrase it hypothetically first.

Got a bike in mind yet?

CBR500R is the front-runner at the moment.

OK, it won't need restricted, but you'll want fully comp on that, so be prepared for a fair hike. It does look like a nice bike though.

If you're buying new, see if Honda can offer you a too-good-to-be-true deal on insurance, and I would suggest firing it into thebikeinsurer.co.uk as a new quote as well just to see what it comes out as.

You won't get to use your NCD on it, but you won't lose that either and you may find that a year's cover at a good rate might work out better than getting held to random by your current underwriter.

I'm not sure I want to restrict a ER-6F/Ninja 650. Thanks for your advice as well.

Not sure if i've understood your situation correctly, but i had a restricted zx6 [636] and it went fine for the years i was restricted, so if you're needing to/considering restrict one of them i wouldn't be too detered. Regarding insurance available, i've had best quotes off thebikeinsurer and wickedquotes in the past - and with bikesure the last few years without problems - and also never requested or cared for restriction proof, or listing it as a modification at that time at least, which was handy.

Regards the insurance question in OP, ask the insurer - i've had them refuse to transfer to a new bike on the current policy in the past regardless of additional cost, so i ended up keeping it a remaining couple of months to get the years NCB.

Found a ER-6f, with new tyres (back one at least) for less than £3200 (including the cost of restricting it). '09, less than 15,000 miles. Insurance around £900 fully comp w/pillion and £200 compulsory excess.

47hp @ 209kg
