Just wanted to check that the removal of the instrument binnacle is via the 2 Torq bolts at the back under the instrument cluster (T30 they look like).

After that is it an easy job to get at the back to replace the bulbs?

Also is it best to disconnect lines like the speedo?

Asking as have aftermarket fairing and space is a little tight. This is for a 1994 CB500.

Also any idea what the bulb type is?. Need the neutral idiot indication light and the sidestand light. I also want to check the oil bulb as does not illuminate on switch on (just in case, I've visually checked oil level). It would save a little time getting some beforehand.

Thank you in anticipation Thumbs Up

I don't think you're gonna have to disconnect the speedo cable. I did this multiple times with 5 sets of clocks and none of them required the speedo cable to be disconnected. You can disconnect it, no harm's gonna be done, but there's no point in doing that. The plastic back of the clocks is just a cover and you're gonna see the backs of the bulbs right after you take that cover off. Wink

About bulbs, well the easiest thing is, to take it apart and read the bulb type and wattage on the bulb. OR, just take it to the local parts shop, show them the bulb and they are gonna give you a new one. Thumbs Up

Thought of that but if I didn't have any other transport it'd mean me taking it apart, taking bulbs out, putting it back together, riding bike to and from shop, taking it apart again, replace bulbs and put back together. I was trying to save one lot of taking apart and back together. I'm lazy like that Wink

There are 2 or 3 501 type 9mm capless bulbs and one smaller 6mm capless
You will find it rather difficult to change the bulbs with the instruments attached to the bike
I would disconnect the speedo cable at least and probably the wiring from inside the headlight and put the lot of a bench
The wires to the instrument bulbs are brown with a white trace and a green earth wire to each bulb holder
back cover is held on by 4 Phillips screws

Thanks for the info. For future reference this fiche from Lings Honda is helpful.

I'm still confused as to how to take the instrument cluster off. Mine appears to have a clamp with Torq bolts at the back. Yet fiche seems to show two clamps at the front. I'll have to have another look when home and in daylight.

FYI
https://www.lingshondaparts.com/hpl/images/13MY5WEA/imge/F__0200.jpgimage from Lings Honda site

FYI the 501 are 12v5w. The Honda lists 3w bulbs so that'd be 504 @ 12v3w. Same dimensions as 501.
I'm glad I checked as Halfords want £1.99 for one 504. Online via amazon.co.uk £2.20 for 10.
