Hi,

On my old bandit the discs would occasionally rust up when sat but after use they would be fine.

on the new ST the same things has happened after a day been sat (how does this happen so fast?). but after use the ring is still there.

any ideas why? should i take it back to the garage and moan?

They are probably a more iron rich disk (to give better low temp braking performance), so will rust up quicker.

Where is the ring of rust being left?

If its right at the edge, I wouldn't really worry.

If it's in the middle, you probably have a gouge out of the pad or a large score on the disk.

The discs on my R1 and Exup are stainless but I still get rust marks from the sintered pads if I leave the brakes wet after a wash. The rust marks soon go once the brakes have been used for a while.

If there are some rust spots left after a brisk ride, you can get some emery cloth from the likes of Machine Mart and clean the oxidisation off without damaging the discs. The outer edge on the R1 discs are painted black so no brown marks gather there, but the outer edge on the EBC replacement discs on the Exup regularly discolour.A quick clean with emery and some elbow grease soon gets them clean again Thumbs Up

tis true there is a fair element of iron in triumph discs

if you put the bike away wet and leave it bike laid up for a while you'll get a good spot of rust on where the pads sit on the disc too
