Below is my original post if you're interested:-
https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=276626
I have since passed Mod 1 on my second attempt. I had 2 minors - one for braking a little late on the controlled stop and the 2nd minor for not getting up to speed the first time round for the hazard avoidance. I was shaking when I was signing the documents when I passed!
Roll on Mod 2, which I am a lot less nervous about
I am taking my Mod 2 at Uxbridge, so if anyone has any tips for that particular area I would love to hear them.
Thanks to all those who posted in my original thread. I didn't give up in the end and I'm really looking forward to getting a bigger bike after I've had a bit more time on my 125.

. You passed on a big bike?
GL with the next one. If you've got some experience it will be easier than the Mod1. ____________________ Licence: Nov 2012, Bikes: Suzuki GN125, Moto Guzzi Strada 750, Triumph Sprint ST 955i x 2

Congrats on the pass! I took my Mod 2 at Uxbridge just a bit over a year ago. Your instructor will probably go over this, but watch the box junction on the way out of the centre. You don't want to end up stopped in the hashed box, which would be an instant fail. Make sure you can exit the box before you enter it.
The only other thing I remember is that he/she might take you to a set of lights for a right turn, very near the centre. The lights have arrows that are used at peak times only. So, at rush hour, it shows a straight green arrow, followed a bit later by a green right arrow. Outside of peak hours, the normal (round) green light comes on. The guy I was with on the day failed because he waited at the stop line when the light turned green, expecting a right-turn-only signal that never came. If the light is round, go forward and wait in the middle of the intersection for the right turn.
The main thing to remember is to relax as best you can and ride as you normally would. Don't try to do things too differently just because you are on test. Keep to the speed limits and I personally wouldn't filter (just increases the chances of something going wrong), but otherwise ride like you mean it. That's primarily what they are looking for -- confident, safe riding. ____________________ Current: '14 VFR800X Test passed 31/10/12.

esullivan thanks for mentioning this. When I trained during my DAS one of the guys I was with failed at Uxbridge for this exact reason. Thanks for the heads up and I will try and not do the same. |

When I did mine at Uxbridge, we came out of the test centre and turned left over the little hump bridge.
I swear no matter how often I do the lights on the bridge I cannot see the fecking things until I am under them. Almost went straight though a red, heard the examiner laugh and he said something like 'well at least your brakes work'.
Other than that, was enjoyable ride. Even during rush hour the Uxbridge / Iver / Hillingdon area is a pretty easy area to ride around. |

Congratulations! I remember your original post and urged you to carry on, glad to hear you carried on, would have been a shame to quit after getting so far.
As for mod 2, I found it easier and I felt more relaxed than on my mod 1. Just treat it as another lesson and you should be fine. Just listen to his instructions, relax and be as safe as possible. If you miss a turn or exit on a roundabout dont panic just carry on the route you have taken as you wont fail for taking a wrong turn, but will if you panic and try to correct your mistake in a dangerous manner.
Good luck. |

Congrats
Did mine in Uxbridge this summer. When we left the site, the tester told me to follow signs for west Drayton then Ivor. Perfect. Big open country lanes, no busy junctions just a nice ride out once in Ivor he gave me left/right commands and it's was fine. I had the irish test guy, very nice man. Well he gave me a pass anyway
As said above just don't stop in the yellow box and relax. It's not so bad ____________________ zzr600 |

I did it! I passed Mod 2 on Friday, with 1 minor
If I had told myself 6 months ago I would have my full Cat A license I wouldn't have believed it and now it's a reality.
I'm over the moon!
Now it's time to decide on a big bike! I have a short list ready to look at them all at Motorcycle Live. |

Nice one, it's all worth it when you hear "I'm glad to tell you..."
So get 'em out for the lads then.

Can't understand your logic but it's your choice. Personally, it would be between a Speed Triple and the MT09 - but why not just cast out £1200 on a good 600cc and learn your craft over the coming year? That's what i chose to do after many a conversion with many a biker. As i said, your choice but I'd be fuming if I dropped a brand new bike whilst on my learning curve ____________________ Bike: 1993 CB400 SuperFour - 1999 Yamaha FZS600 - DAS passed 7/11/13 - Working my way towards a Yamaha FZ1. |
