I was in the same position as you around 5 months ago. I started on a Honda cg 125 on learner plates. I then continued and did a DAS course. In order to get the A2 license you must complete a theory test and two practical tests (Mod 1 + Mod 2). Mod 1 is a basic maneuvering test and mod 2 is the on road test. You will be restricted to machines of 47bhp (the power may be derived from a machine of 94bhp or less).

Your license will not automatically update after 2 years as did the old restricted license, you will have to retake both practical tests when you are 21 (provided you pass your A2 while you are still 19).

Before you start looking at bikes I suggest you actually start riding and get some Direct Access training sorted out.

Firstly, use the Get On scheme to bag a free hour or so on a bike to see if you enjoy it.

Then do a Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) course. This validates your provisional entitlement for 2 years.

At the same time (not literally) pass your motorcycle theory test, which is also valid for 2 years.

Then you'll want to pay a training school for training on their A2 test bikes and use of them for the tests.

About £600 - £900 later, depending on costs and your ability, you should be licensed up.

Then do it again in 2 years, although by then you'll probably be confident enough to get an own "A" test bike and figure out a way to get it to the test centre legally and do your tests on it. Wink
