Hi, I've got a couple of problems with my Honda NSR125.

Firstly it keeps on stalling. It's ok with the throttle on but when it's left idle it just stalls, even after I left it running for a while or ridden it around.

The second problem, I don't know if it's related, is that the oil light keeps coming on when I'm riding the bike when I give it a little bit of revs (not much just 4-5k or so). It only happens when I'm riding. I've checked the oil and it seems ok, although the oil indicator doesn't seem to move even when I move the bike. Anyway I topped it up and no difference. Any ideas?

cheers

andy

First thing, the stalling is most likely that the idle speed is not set and the oil light thing could be a bad connection but otherwise I don't know

I wouldn't rely on the oil light anyway, just fill the oil bottle up to the top and make a note of how far you can go before it gets low. May sound stupid but you are putting 2 stroke oil in the bottle under the seat and not in with the gearbox oil on the side of the engine? Smile

Yes, what mr jamez said. I don't believe there is a 2 stroke oil indicator. The 2 stroke oil bottle is under the fuel tank, the one on the engine is the gearbox oil level.

The 2 stroke oil indicator is a little red light on the speedo. When the oil level gets low, it comes on and stays on until you top up. It could be a bad connection like baldy said.

Oh ... my ... god!!! I think I've done something stupid Shocked

I take it 2 stroke oil isn't good for the gearbox and I have to change it???

I do not have an oil bottle under the seat, it's under the fuel tank as robby said. i can see it now but how do I get to it?

I can't believe I've done this. I did check the bike over for where the oil would go and the gearbox one seemed like the only one.

Oh dear, if you have run out of 2 stroke oil, then that means the engine has had no lubrication. Probably why it is stalling due to overheating Confused go to www.nsr125.com it shows you how to top up the 2 stroke oil. Probably a good idea to drain the gearbox oil as well and change it, also explained on nsr125.com.

How long has it been like this? has probably damaged the engine, suprised it hasn't seized! mabey think about stripping the engine down and check the barrel, piston, rings and bearings Smile

Hi

Err, yes you have done something you should not have done!

As the engine is still running I would doubt you have run it out of 2 stroke oil, but fill it up before you start it again. The light is for the 2 stroke oil level, and at a guess it would do around 300 miles on a tank of 2 stroke oil.

On the carb there is an idle speed adjuster nob. Just turn this in slighty, which should up the idle speed a touch and stop it stalling.

For the gearbox I would recommend that you change the gearbox oil immediatly. Probably best to change it, take it for a short run and then change it again, then change it again after a week or so of use. I have no idea what effect 2 stroke oil would have on the gearbox and clutch.

All the best

Keith
