Hey people, I was just downloading this file, when I noticed something strange. I download typically at 120Kb tops, but, when I looked, I was downloading at a very impressive 180Kb! An extra 60! I thought 'Fuck me! Got to be one of those one off's', so I took a speed test using a program I have, and the same, though 'Hmm' I'll do it again, did it again, and the same. So I've done it about 10 times now and average speed is 183Kb per second. It takes about 5 seconds to get one megabyte. I'm so excited. I hope this lasts! What could it be? Also, what's everyone elses connection?

I'm on NTL Broadband 600k, downloads tend to be about 50k per second and on a good day 70k but depends on where I'm downloading from.

I'm with NTL too, I'm on the 10MB LAN, which I'd imagine you are too, but to go from downloading from 120, to 180 is fantastic! Give me files to download whilst I can, I want to make the most of this!

Hmm... Hustler, has your speed increased lately? Maybe they have done the same with the one mega byte service. Doubt it like, can see them giving you that extra 60Kb to download with for nothing.

DO me a favour and test the speed

https://www.dslreports.com/stest

Mine clocked in at 699kb/s which is way over the rated 600 , now i remember they did this a few years ago when they upped the speed from 512kb , might just be upping the limits

Ok, I have done it and results are:

1427 / 246
A 178.4 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed: 246 kbps.

Way above the 1024 that they say. I'm downloading an extra 60Kb for nothing, It just doesn't seem right?

It is more than likely you are not downloading at such speeds, rather it is just displaying them.

NTL have upped the speeds.

600>750
1000>1500

Think the 150kb went up also.

No, the speeds HAVE gone faster and are going alot quicker! An Mp3 would normally take about 50 seonds, now it takes about 30 tops. So is it true John that they have gone up and at no extra cost?

Ah well, problem solved, not that it was a problem, just a puzzler. Anyway, it seems that in order for NTL to keep in competition with Blueyonder and other high speed internet companies, there giving ALL customers extra speeds as of the other day and what gets even better: it's free!!

So, like John said, it will go:

600Kb to 750Kb
1Mb to 1.5Mb

And yes, even the 150Kb gets a boost too, from 150 to 300Kb. Not a bad do eh!?
