I'm getting a Micron Delta + road legal can fitted on Saturday - gonna ring my insurance to let them know, I'm currently
paying £400 TPFT on a 600 bandit, how much is it likely to go up by do you reckon ?
(I know I'm going to find out but I like to prepare myself)

Hi

Difficult to say and will depend on the company. On my 1200 Bandit going from standard to 153.6hp put the insurance up by about £25 for the remaining half year of the policy.

All the best

Keith

I'm not sure that they do? I think you will find that about half of the people on here have an aftermarket can and I don't think many will have even told their insurance company.

Generally you'll only get charged an administration fee, which varies from company to company, but you can be sure they'll decide to charge you something!

People do not normally tell their insurance company about their different exhaust as you cannot be covered by the insurance company offically if you have a not road legal exhaust on your bike. However if you have a legally marked can then fair enough they're going to charge you something, but it means in the event of a claim they can't turn around and say they're not covering you.

Cheers - I've had a modified car in the past and made sure I mentioned EVERYTHING - only 2 months later I wrote the bugger off and got paid out for everything. alloys exhaust, chip etc.
Not worth not doing it really. I know I've only got 3rd party but don't wanna get sued for no insurance.
Thumbs Down

Don't they normally only pay out for the value of the standard parts?

Normally yeah but I was with Direct Line, they cover cosmetic enhancements to the value of £500 + offer you re-imbursement for uprated parts (not new price) or you can remove them and they'll offer you standard value of vehicle. I'd spent about £1500 on top of car value and got offered extra £500 on top of trade.
Pretty good really - all in all I've claimed (including third party claims against me) about £14,000 (crashed twice, 1 tree, 1 write off, sued by another driver for grazing their knee in a crash)
I was in ambulance with neck brace and this dozy bint said
"My manager insists that I come in the ambulance to be checked out" - she'd got a tiny cut on her knee - her bumper was dented, the ambulance driver told her to f**k off in so many words.
I was ok apart from bad bruising but you really don't need arseholes like that wasting their time.

Could you not just say hat the old can was knackerd and that this is not a performance upgrade but you conforming to the legal requirement to have some form of a scilencer.

my bike doesnt have a standard can as the standard can rusted away years ago. Ive not told my insurance company a thing. Same goes for alot of people who ride older bikes.

Yes, they're more than happy to insure you with something which is road legal, they just won't insure it with something which is not road legal.

You're meant to tell them about any modifactions to the bike when they ask you "Does it have any modifactions?" on the phone. Laughing

Opens his desk draw bulging with dyno read outs and receipts for aftermarket parts and headwork labour.
