my son plays that stuff, not my style though
thought the video was a bit noisy (over production / badly made & mixed)

Laughing

It sounds far too "nice"

Is that what gets classified as "Death Metal" nowadays? It sounds more like pop punk/dinosaur era old school emo with some growly vocals.

I haven't got the foggiest what genre you'd call it, they're just starting out. They have got some other stuff on youtube and whilst 'rougher' in vocals the earlier stuff is also in need of tweaking. Personally I think they should quit doing the growly stuff but it seems to be what their peers like!

keep telling my son he should drop the shredding and get back to more moderate stuff
which he is also very good at, he even plays classical stuff but he likes his thrash / grunge / death / screeching stuff Thumbs Up

I know it's not death metal but I've just got the new motorhead album (aftershock) and it's awesome, can't stop playing it in the car.

Honestly, I'd rather listen to Baron von grumble's greatest vlogs on a constant loop than put my ears through that again.

Suicide Silence caught me out recently. Absolutely awesome!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoWmvv6VpxI

A lot of my friends are in bands at the moment, all along the same lines, scream-o metal, melodic hardcore etc.

Although main stream, i.e. radio etc you won't get very far with that style, the market is still there for it. Lot of people have got rather successful with it.

Well, that wasn't what I was expecting!

It was quite nicely done but far too pop for my tastes. There are some decent new bands around which are far closer to death metal than that. I'm really into Mutation at the moment; they've had one commercially available album, "Error 500", and one available by pledge only, "The Frankenstein Effect". I've linked a track below which is the opener from TFE.

https://youtu.be/ylSI8OkNXHU

This track isn't Death Metal by any stretch but some of their stuff definitely falls into that genre. This is a good gateway song to some really hardcore stuff they do.

Its a good track - but that's not death metal - similar to some of the yank high school rock bands.

Sounds like 2000's pop rock with a mismatched growly voice half way through, 2 seperate songs / styles mixed together, need to go one way or the other.

This is death metal Smile https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsvdMvJG0Vs
