On Tuesday night we went to the best gig of this year!

Wilko Johnsons "Last Tour"!

Younger viewers may know him from "Game of Thrones"!

For those that don't know, Wilko is a former member of Dr Feelgood and occasional member of the Blockheads.  Wilko was diagnosed with terminal cancer earlier this year, and was given 8 months to live, he refused the chemo therapy, 10 months later he's still doing his thing!
In his own words, "its getting a bit embarrassing now"!

The venue was the Oceana, in Watford!
"Eddie & the Hot Rods" and "Nine Below Zero" were the support, we missed the Hot Rods, but caught "Nine Below Zero" doing their blues set, we'd never heard of them, seems they are/were a darn sarf phenomenom, they put on a good show!

Wilko was up next, with two ex Blockheads, bass, Norman Watt-Roy and drums Dylan Howe.
We got as near to the stage as we could, three or four rows back.
The atmosphere was, very, emotionally charged, Mrs Suntan said a mohicaned guy, standing next to me, was crying!
Wilko was machine gunning us with his, trademark, 1962, black and red telecaster, (his "geetar" is the same age as me, FFS)!
We got a, fantastic, bass solo and, believe it or not, a drum solo, haven't heard one of them for decades!
Wilko's still got that stare, that walk thing and, best of all, the same, unique, playing style.
All in all an amazing experience, especially when you consider the circumstances.
Putting aside the circumstances, it was still a fantastic gig, with a group of real, accomplished, musicians giving it their all!
The best gig I've seen in a "helluva" long time!

The Damned & Ruts DC was top of my gig list, this year, but Wilko topped it easily!

What's your gig of the year?

Probably Ginger Wildheart's birthday bash that I missed on Tuesday night due to recovery from spinal surgery. The unused tickets sit here on my sideboard.

30 musicians on stage at the end including a childhood hero of mine - Rat Scabies.

Ah well, the Wildhearts are touring in April. I'll have to make up for it then.

Nice one, it is amazing how he's dealt with the cancer. I saw him on tv and he said he'd never been happier!

I met Hugh whitaker last wknd, ex drummer for the housemartins, top guy.

I saw a documentary about Dr. Feelgood on BBC4, he came across as a highly amusing fellow, was sad to hear of his cancer, but pleased to hear of his approach to it.

Love this track of theirs:

Paul-Ronney Angel played that gig too with I believe certain members of Urban Voodoo Machine.

Wilko was my best gig of this year closely followed by UVM. Paul-Ronney is the lead singer with UVM and was recently involved in a sideburns-off with Mr Suntan. (Sid won)

Check them out

Orphan's Lament

Love Song#666

UVM just released a single featuring , guess who? Wilko!

It's like when you find a hidden layer in a box of your fave chocs Wink

He'd best not snuff it. His character in game of thrones has quite an important role in the next season or two, due to being mute. As there are no other mute characters I'm not sure if they can manage without him!
