My Yamaha SR125 stalls on engaging 1st gear. Engine is ticking over fine, clutch in and down into 1st. Then the engine cuts. Haven't got a haynes or manual for the bike. Is the clutch knackered or does it need adjusting.

I'm new to these forums so please be gentle Very Happy

It could be a dodgy side stand switch or something.

Its just probably wear and tear, there designed to stop u riding off with it down, you might have to get a new one etc.

I doubt it would be the clutch as it would lunge forward when your clicked it into gear or just wouldn't go etc.

Sometimes my TZR125 does this when its first started and very cold.

Have you tried letting it idle for a few minutes first to warm up?

Sounds like the clutch is dragging. Have you checked the cable for the correct freeplay? Too much slack will cause this.

Same bike, same problem. Right outside my girlfriends house with everyone watching, was there for ages before someone screamed at me to put the side stand up. I still do it all the time.

I only just got the heap. I'm brand new to this motorbike malarky and wasn't really thinking, fortunately I wasn't in a public place just siting on my drive.

I won't be doing it again in a hurry.
