I read in another forum the other day that bikes of my make that had two carburetors had slightly more bhp than the ones they make these days. I've got a 600 honda shadow, and looking at my vehicle registration sheet I actually realized that the KW output of my bike is 29, and not 25 as I had thought... very very stupid of me not to realize this until now. This gives it about 38 bhp.

Is some terms it is nice because it means the bike is more powerful, however given that my license won't allow me to drive a bigger bike in another 3 months time, I am a bit worried.

What am I supposed to do with this? Just pretend I don't know and act surprised if I get pulled over? Don't want to loose my license... How does the police act on this over in the UK?

A claimed 38bhp bike will probably only put out 33bhp anyway in the real world, so I wouldn't worry about it. Smile

does,nt matter police never check, but if you have a serious crash the insurance company would want to see you is your bike is restricted to 33bhp, l my self ride a VFR400 that produces about 60BHP and l,m resistricted to 33bhp but l take the risk Wink

But when you get pulled over, they ask for both your license and your vehicle registration form don't they? Never been pulled over before, and never been driving in the UK before.

They do sometimes ask for the V5, if you don't hold an MOT because the vehicle is not old enough to need an one, so you need to prove how old it is etc.

But they never asked for my Restriction Certificate, even when I had my accident in 2002.

Never heard of anyone being asked for their proof of restriction or being done for not being restricted, but in the event of an accident where your insurance is looking at having to pay out a big wodge of money they are fairly likely to ask to see your proof of restriction as they don't want to have to pay out their money.

It is illegal, just be aware of the risks (driving with no license, no insurance and possibly other stuff as well) but I have never heard of anyone being done for it, but it could happen.

I'd get it on a dyno and see if it really is putting out 38bhp... you might find it's lower and that you are actually legal. Just through tyres, gunked up engine, whatever taking a few bhp away.

the only way they would be able to tell how powerful your bike is, is if they put it on a dyno. they would only do this in the event of a serious accident. chances are the bike would be so destroyed they wouldnt be able to do it. either than or you would be in such a bad way as to not care.

I plan to risk it, so long as you have a certificate or insurance and they didnt ask for a certificate then it doesnt matter.

alright, that's cool.

Only risk is that since I don't have a tax disc on mine, being a norwegian registred bike and all, they might need my registration form in order to see that it is actually registered in norway.

But hopefully they won't check anything else Mr. Green

Thanks for the help chaps! Hopefully no one will pull me over in this time, but if it happens I'll be right back here to sulk Wink

cheers, martin.

And you think they can speak Norwegian? Just tell them that is the hp for the insurance classification, or something like that Twisted Evil .

All the best
