Some of you will remember the NSR my mate got for a good price...

Well, he let me borrow it tonight. The night ended in A&E.

Car turned across my path to take a turning on his right, thankfully the police turned up and took his statement where he admitted full liability.

I am insured to ride any bike, his bike is insured in his name. What's the procedure now, obviously this is a massive inconvenience to him now, and I feel bad, even though it wasn't my fault. I'm guessing full admission of blame will speed any claim up. Who do I call?

Good to hear you came off ok bud Thumbs Up

I would imagine, as it belongs to your friend, that they would need to follow up with the insurrance company to inform them of the situation.

Got lucky really, the way I hit the car. I broke nothing, just a few sprained ligaments really, so I'm guessing it will really start to hurt tomorrow.

I was doing about 30ish and the bike just stopped when it hit his car, leaving me to carry on my jolly way, I remember seeing the ground being "up" and thinking "please don't break any bones!".

Hi

Glad you seem OK.

It is likely your cover to ride other bikes will be 3rd party only. As such your insurance company quite likely won't get involved in you claiming off the other driver, or will just pass you onto a claims company.

Otherwise you will be claiming yourself, either via a claims company or by doing it directly.

All the best

Doh.

Contact their insurance company and initiate the claim, or use a claims company to do it for you.
I'm not sure how a 'hire bike' would work in this case.

You shouldn't need to be concerned with your insurance situation because it's got nothing to do with them.

If you don't get anything sorted, I might get around to getting my 125 sorted over Christmas (as I've started playing with it the other day); could probably sort something out if you wanted to borrow that for your mate.

Very kind offer there thank you.

I will call around and see what I need to do. The police attended and got his admission of liability so hopefully neither me or my mate will lose out.

Weirdly, I didn't feel any adrenaline or anything like that, and it hasn't put me off at all. No shock afterwards either. Just felt like a bit of an aggressive tumble!

I think the only mistake I made was being in a very high gear for the speed, so the bike wasn't making a lot of noise...

If I was on the GSXR he'd have heard me, at least!

The problem with a hire bike is they may offer YOU one, but as you already have a bike, they won't.

A friend had a similar issue, thought it was his own bike.
But his 'other bike' was a classic MV that he had no desire to be commuting on; but they wouldn't cover replacement hire bike costs because he had another.

The other thing with being in a high gear is no/very little engine braking when you let off the throttle. Not that it would have mattered much here but worth knowing. If you ride in lower gears you can speed up or slow your bike down a lot quicker.

Glad your fine.
Your mate will just be glad you're okay too. Get him a beer this Christmas and celebrate being alive together!!!!

Glad to see that you're OK. At the end of the day, it's just a bike.

A rare, irreplaceable bike that you've murdered, you monster. Mad

Ahem. Well. Insurance can't be that bad, it's not like having to pay out to multiple third parties is an unusual situation. I hope it goes smoothly for you both.

Not that much quicker on an NSR.
And it's generally considered not a great idea to use engine braking on many 2 strokes (certainly premix, pump would depend on how it works) as it can restrict the oil flow to the engine.
More pertinent off road where you may have a long steep section that on a 4 stroke you would ride down with a closed throttle providing the main braking.

Yo0ur mate and tell him he can have one of your bikes for as long as it takes to get his one replaced.

I'm sure his mate on a provision licence would love a GSXR600/750, but may not be so good for both of them Smile.
(Or so I believe he is anyway.)

He'd have been more than welcome to take the CBR 600, if he'd done his test in time, it was going to be his anyway!

I think we're just going to throw his old NSR back together if we can, while we wait.

How long is it usually for a payout if there is no dispute on liability?

Could be ages. 6 months wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

The ambulance chasers won't show much interest without any injury claim, especially on a fairly low value bike. So a fair chance you will be dealing with all the chasing yourself.

Get some quotes done to repair the bike, before you even think about bodging it back together to get it on the road.

All the best

Keith

He's got another NSR, won't be touching this one until it has been examined.

I got paid out for my CBR fairly quickly (I think?). Would you advise a claims management company like BLD?

Not sure if the claims management company would be interested. Low value claim and no injuries. All you can do is find which ones people have been pleased with the service from and speak to them.

If the bike is in a recovery company pound at the moment then get it out as soon as possible. The bill from that could ramp up rapidly and easily exceed the pre accident value of the bike.

All the best

Keith

Police actually gave us the option of recovering it ourselves, thankfully.

The bike was about 50 yards from my house anyway - I'd almost made it home!

Had to be lifted at the front end and wheeled on one wheel. I got taken to A&E though as I had some bruising around my eye.

Spoke to my insurers who advised to speak to my friend's insurers so they can chase it up with third party. Got police business card with log number etc, so where liability is concerned, that's a weight off.

Would be surprised if your friends insurer help.

With fully comp you are covered by your own insurance. Hence you claim from your policy which pays out, and your insurer claims from the other insurer to cover their losses. With 3rd party only you are claiming directly from from the other insurer, just possibly with the help of some claims management company who are only interested if they can make a profit on the fees.

All the best
