Test before selling. Saves hassle.

Don't buy untested items. Saves hassle.

Untested = tested and it doesn't work.

If it does, it's a bonus.

Theres a reason it's cheap is it's untested, if it said '100% working, i accept returns' you'd be paying double.

In some cases it really is too much hassle to test.

Or it may be that people want the item for parts and know that the bit they want is working.

Easy answer; don't buy it?
There's a lot of things I don't want to buy on ebay that I, well, don't buy. I don't let it bother me Smile.

Ok, it does slightly irk me when it's not made clear it's untested in the title.

It's quite a common practice for people to buy an item to replace a broken one, then send back their broken one claiming that the item they just received doesn't work.

I presume they paid by paypal swanny? Did you get them to sign anything?

If paying by paypal, you should ALWAYS make sure they sign something if they collect or you deliver personally.

I once bought a latptop that someone was selling cheap, to sell on ebay. Someone won the auction, and I was bricking it, that they would say it was faulty, and post me a brick in a box demanding their money back.

I made £100 profit , but not sure it was worth the worry that I was going to lose £500.

I tell you something, there's some right dishonest people on ebay. Sent at least 2 items out that were a single order but sent 2 of them instead, nobody messaged me to let me know the mistake, they're quite happy to receive free shit.

People try it on with the delivery saying their item hasn't shown up and they want a refund, when I can blatantly see that they signed for it, in their name, at their address.

Had someone try and return a tablet, that wasn't actually the tablet that I had sent out to them. Looks like they wanted an upgrade and sent the old tablet back in the new box that I sent them, hoping I didn't notice?

You also can't please some people, they give you stick for the courier company not delivering their item, yet it clearly states on the tracking that they tried to deliver twice but nobody was in. So I sent emails back and forwards via ebay with them trying to calm them down and promise I will sort it, call courier companies back and fourth and then when they eventually get the item, they leave a shitty neutral feedback or even worse, a negative (not had one yet).

Ebay is full of cunts that will argue the toss, try and rip you off or not own up if there's something in the box that they didn't order.

They never email you back once you point it out to them that you have tracking or the refund went through and here is the transaction ID.

This times eleventy.

Even if they say they do not accept returns Ebay will allow you to return and refund you.

My wife sold a ring on Ebay the other week. Seller claimed she was not happy with it. Also claimed the ring was as described or "not misdescribed" in some of the mails in her dispute, then went on to say we used lighting to make the ring prettier than it was (Name one person who does not take a picture optimising the light thats available?)

She had no grounds. She had bought this ring, agreed it was what it was described as and still ebay sided with her and we had to offer a refund.

Turned out ok in the end, we sold it on for more to someone who was happy.

Untested means you should expect it not to work.

eBay disputes don't always go in favour of the buyer. The two I've had as a seller have both gone in my favour and so didn't cost me a penny. Generally retarded buyers seem to not understand the rules of eBay, them just changing their mind about a purchase or discovering that it's not suitable for their needs is not a valid reason for being refunded.

Oh and as a seller you can report buyers for abuse of the eBay buyers protection program. eBay then ban or restrict their account.

Any signs of a buyer complaining inappropriately should be reported to eBay, after doing this eBay have almost immediately removed negative feedback that idiotic buyers leave.

Phoning eBay for help and advice has been helpful in my experience.

Selling on eBay can be lots of hassle but most transactions are completely problem free.

Always send by tracked delivery. If it's being collected then cash is the only payment to accept.

I'll find the links on eBay when I'm home but the only reasons for being refunded is if the item doesn't arrive, it arrives broken or if it's not as described.

Absolutely. I believe that is taught in Common Sense 101. It's on the same grounds as "sold as seen" i.e. I think it's fucked, no refundsies

I don't offer returns on shit I sell because it's hard enough flogging it in the first place.

I don't sell dodgy stuff either, I just feel like eBay rape my arse enough with the fees they charge. I'll be fucked if I have to pay return postage and relist an item I'm hardly turning a profit on as it is.

I've had people claim shit was broken (it wasn't) and then send photos to eBay and me of said broken item when I took photos of it being packaged up. eBay decided DHL had broken it but it was still my fault Evil or Very Mad Rolling Eyes Wouldn't mind, the guitar that got broken wasn't even mine, I was flogging it for a mate who didn't want the hassle of setting up an eBay account.

I also don't generally offer returns, however I do test things first to ensure they're working.

Not had anyone file for a refund as of yet for anything i've sold, had one whinge a while back that a copy of battlefield 3 on the ps3 the multiplayer code had already been used (I sold about 15 copies all preowned and clearly stated the codes were used)

Told the bloke is said the code was used on the listing, never heard back.

People in general are idiots unfortunately. Ive had to return 1 item in 10 years on ebay and I got a load of abuse from the seller. It was supposed to be brand new and what I got was old, covered in pet hair and damaged. Apparently I was the arsehole for going to ebay after waiting a week for a response. Since I used the resolution centre I should 'break my legs'.

Lovely, Im thinking of waiting for it to be relisted and bidding again for the laugh Wink

What difference does it make to you?

If some cnut is daft enough to buy some other cnut's junk so be it.
It's fair that the selling cnut states that it's broken. So what's the beef?
