I bought an old 1975 honda cb125. it was running alright but one day after a fill up with gas it died while slowing moving (maybe going 1 km behind traffic). I tried to kickstart it and the engine cut off again after a couple seconds. I'll admit i'm a complete novice when it comes to bike maintenance. Luckily i was about 100m from my apartment and rolled it to the garage. I tried again to start it up but to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

:D hi dude, merry xmas and all the best for the new year.

a cb125s??pics would help.

goto cmsnl and find your bike, the exploded views will help.

i suspect you are in the usa and know how the petrol tap works.

how is tap sediment trap?? and how is fuel flow to the carb??

it ran so the carb has worked but may now be full of crap, see cmsnl pics for some help. find float bowl drain screw and undo, what comes out??

but first to rule summut out, remove cb points cover and kick start the engine, yours may have cdi ign?? ( 1975 i suspect would have points ign ) does the 6mm nut ( bolt head actually ) on the visible end of the cam shaft rotate?? and the points open and close??

if yes then the cam chain isnt broke but still may need some attention.

see cmsnl for adjust mechanism and be carefull cos some have a "jesus" clip on the adj mech.

jesus clip named cos when removing them they either fly off and get you in the eye or vanish and you say "jesus that feckin hurts or jesus where the feck did that go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "

either way be carefull as this clip can be forced off and out of its groove by careless cam chain adjustment and cause mahem!!

so check cam chain aint broke and fuel, then ign.

it'll be fuel related most likely.

Yes I agree:

I have the CB125J
I have had no end of trouble with fuel supply! kinked fuel pipe, clogged carb jets, I have a nasty rusty inside to my tank i guess.

I recommend an inline fuel filter

How's the ignition timing?

On my bike, im having trouble with a duff head gasket that leaks out everywhere. This means mine wont idle and performance is terrible.
