Hi,

I was hoping I could find some advise about my Honda CG 125-W.
I have bought this bike very recently, as an ongoing, but very minor project. The previous owner has done a lot of work on it, and all I think I should have have left to do is replace the exhaust studs and attach the exhaust, replace a side mirror, a broken seal and most importantly adjust the idle speed as it is running way too high at the moment.

I am hoping it will just be a matter of turning the idle screw a bit.

My concern is this:
a) Does the engine get damaged in any way if I leave it to sit on neutral with such high revs going on? (so it would warm up before I adjust it)

b) Some articles recommend riding the bike for about 40 mins before adjusting the idle screw.... The bike sounds scary when I start the engine, I haven't sat on a bike since I've done my CBT a year ago and I don't think I dare ride it at the moment... is it ok to just leave it to idle for a little while, adjust it so it sounds normal and maybe do a more accurate adjustment later on, when I've ridden it for a while?

Sorry for the long post! But I would really appreciate advise about this as I really don't want to damage anything... Shifty

Idle screw all the way in, then 1 3/4 turns out.
Should give it a safe enough idle speed to let it warm up.
Then fine tune as necessary.

check the idle screw, see if its wound in too far before you start it up again, if its not maybe the throttle cable is too tight? slacken off the adjusters and wind the idle screw out and try and start it with a bit of throttle, if its still revving high, could be a split intake hose or the throttle slide in the carb could be jammed!

hth Thumbs Up

You don't need to let it warm up.
It doesn't need it.
Start on choke and run for a few minutes then flick the choke lever off or ride off with choke on and flick it off whenever you want.
It is not best practice to put a big load on any cold engine. ie full RPM or full throttle going up a hill or on the flat. Let it warm up with moderate load which should be after about 5 mins running on a CG.

This is NOT the normal running temperature. You only have any machine at normal running temperature when the 'iron' is hot.
So if a gauge is fitted you may see the gauge at normal but soon as you switch off the temp will drop.

Adjust idle/check throttle cable as suggested.
