I seem to have managed to place black marks all over a carpet in this house. Like those in the picture below:

I can only presume that it's grease.

Does anybody know of a good way to clean this up? Leaving multiple obvious stains on the carpet in a rented house is not ideal Thumbs Down

(Looking for things people have done which actually works rather than gambling with google results)

Vanish carpet cleaner has got stains off of a carpet for me.

Could also rent a Rug Doctor, you local tesco may rent them out. Mine does.

Well, I don't know if I'm stupid for trying this, but I had some de-greaser lying around (brake cleaner) and I sprayed a little of it on to one of the stains that I could hide easily. To my surprise, the stain came straight off.

Never have I removed a stain so effortlessly O.o That, combined with a (no longer) white t-shirt and the carpet looks as good as when I moved in. Very Happy

It seems to be both dry and clean now.

When I brought an engine indoors to work on, I'd put it in a couple of bags so as not to make a mess.... turns out there was still a hole in them somewhere and I managed to trail oil all the way upstairs and into the living room Evil or Very Mad

I ended up just making a strong mixture of washing up liquid and water and gave it a good scrub with an old nail brush. Turned out those parts of the carpet ended up cleaner than when I moved in here

My shoes were really bad. So, as you do, I took them off and carried them indoors.

The next day I completely forgot about my dirty shoes when popping out, put them on inside and put these marks all over the carpet >.<

Just got back inside again now. Carpet looks great Very Happy

Get a professional carpet cleaner in. Tell them you want the carpet shampooed and spot cleaned for a landlords inspection.

Rug doctors can fuck off when you see the bad-boy they come in with.

Costs less than you'd think.

Incontinence is nothing to be ashamed of Wink

However...
Vanish powerfoam usually does the trick for me. If not borrow/rent a carpet cleaner [looks like a big hoover usually and it should get it clean :up:https://img.tesco.com/Groceries/pi/687%5C5011417547687%5CIDShot_225x225.jpg
