Hey folks,

I put my bike away in November (yeah I know, stupid idea) and the weather has hardly turned for the worse. I own a CBF so was planning on avoiding the snow.

I'm thinking of cracking the bike back out on thursday now, seeing as though winter doesnt know if its paying us a visit this year,

do the bods of BCF think this is a good idea? Or should I leave it in storage another couple of months (Don't think I can take it much longer mind Sad )

I wouldn't have put it in to storage in the first place. Bring it out and ride it if you want to. Don't ride it when you don't want to. Simples.

Really, seriously?

Have you seen motorbikes on the road? You have? Good.

I'd even ride a CBF in the snow* if it meant I didnt have to walk.

edit:
*unless it was from Victor Devine.

My ZX6R has been inside the house since the end of October. I plan to ride it from mid February. First track day hopefully mid March.

My bike is still not in one piece so perfect excuse Wink

Hand in your 'I am a biker' membership card and rental towel at reception on your way out. Thanks.

Just remember all the heavy snowfall we had back in March last year Sad

Stll didn't stop me going out on the bike though, just avoided the roads that were still covered in snow.

The weather's really mild at the moment, so go and enjoy. Thumbs Up

I bought a scooter to save my Beemer from the worst of winter.

I've still ridden the Beemer more.

<Goes to ride the scooter>

If a bike is your only mode of transport then I can't understand why you wouldn't ride it through winter :S It's not that bad/hard providing you're not a dick(usually) and ride to suit the conditions.

I'd rather wazz in me own mouth than use public transport again *shudder*

I usually prep mine before winter with a good wash/acf-50 etc. Then use it whenever the roads are dry throughout winter without a wash until spring. Apart from a bit on the chain its yet to suffer any noticable rust, even though very much visibily coated in salt dust by spring time. So long as its kept relatively dry [condensation will always be a bit of a problem] its seemed to survive fine.

I wouldn't bother 'storing' it to be honest - just be more selective when you use it if you're worried about the bike/you riding in bad weather.

If you want to get it out, get it out. Hell I might get the 954 out tomorrow.

NB I've been threatening to do this for weeks, but keep getting dicked by the weather.

Probably more accurate that the £24.99 one from Aldi that the Met Office use. Thumbs Up

Ah but the Met office employ trends to predict weather.

I look out the window and get a wholly more accurate prediction. Very Happy

Couldn't some foreign trends do it for less money?

I didn't pass my car test until 2008 at the grand old age of 38, so used to have a winter hack (when I could afford one) to stop my main bike being ruined by salt. If I didn't have a winter hack, I'd cycle to work if the weather was OK.

The only thing which stopped me riding was snow and sometimes very icy conditions.

Nowadays I'm a pussy obviously as I drive a nice free company car through winter instead and keep the bike for pleasure, normally March - early November.

Or the Met Office. So the two together, perhaps not a great idea.
