I picked up this bike last year, and it's been stuck in the garage ever since.
It's quite old, and it's a 50cc 2 stroke.
I've been told by my mate Baz, that you can de-restrict it by drilling out the exhaust, and opening up the powervalves. Is this true?

Razz

On a more serious note. What can you guys tell me about this old girl?
It's 50cc auto, apparently the same engine as the Honda Express.
Dad bought it yonks ago, with good intentions, and it ended up being left. So I've taken it off him to restore, and use to rattle to and from work, so the Chaly doesn't take a beating.

Any tuning potential? Are there any bigger engines that'll swap over into it? Like a Honda Vision (Did they ever make a 125 auto?)

If it's been sitting around for a while, I would rather get the entire bike back up to scratch before anything else. Can't imagine you would see much improvement from any modifications though, the real limitation is the physical design of the entire engine, but I could be wrong. I say just restore it and take pride in that Thumbs Up

wow havent seen one of those for years,

honda caren, as you say its a cousin to the express, as such the engines are pretty untunable as far as i know, you can tweek the running of it to make it more efficient but they are limited by design, removing things like washers in the exhaust will let it breathe better but doesnt increase power by much if at all

i almost remember ( back of the mind) that you can fit the honda 70cc barrel and carb

Epic! 70 kit and a race pipe.

Come at me NRGs!

On a more serious note. It'll have to sit to the back of the garage now, as I'm doing the Rotax Pitty.

Be careful, if you bin the stick insect forks, and copy the Chaly's proper forks and mega disc brake, then pop in a 70cc kit with some bolt on big carb and exhaust goodness, the poor Chaly won't even see which way you went in the cloud of 2smoke! Wink

As soon as you even think about doing any tuning....

Change the carb. Laughing

25mph was good going for the 2 Express's we used for the Mopedathons.

These guys seem to do alot of stuff for them.

Not seen one of those in years. 16 years to be exact. I had one os my first bike. Never lived down the name though, there is just something not quite right about having caren written on the side. I think 26mph was the fastest I had out of it, binned it once, picked it up and carried on. It had 12 months of abuse until I moved up to an mz125 etz. I sold it to a mate who used it for a 15 mile commute to his work until one day............ It caught fire in his back garden while he was warming it up ready for going to work.

you can get way faster than 26 out of a stock one,
they had a tendancy of getting the exhaust clogged and it would slow them right down, i reckon you'd get close to 40mph out of the stock motor, provided every thing was unclogged,
i used to have to cut and burn the carbon out of the exhaust every 2-3000kms
