A friend of mine took hic car licence only a few months ago and he is now thinking of getting a 50cc to run around.

He asked me what type of licence he requires ... and truly I do not have a clue!!

Any of you knows??

Thanks

CBT, but he must display L-plates.

Full bike licence if he wants to lose the L-plates.

if he had passed his test BEFORE feb 2001 then he could have ridden a ped on L plates with no CBT.

as he has not then he will have to do a CBT.

If he is not interested in a full bike licence but only on a 50cc ... can he do a different type of licence? The problem with CBT only is that it runs out after 2yrs.

IMO, there no point doing the moped test unless your only 16.

If your friend gonna do a test they might aswell site the full bike test, whether A1 Light motorcycles or the full A(2) licence.

With a full car license and a CBT, he'll be able to run around on that 50cc without L Plates & from what i understand does not expire, until the license does.

As he passed after feb 2001 he must do a CBT every 2 years and display L-plates, also he can't carry pillions.

I'm just looking at my CBT certificate, and I quote:

"
Catergory Full P (Moped)

5. This certificate also validates, for the life of the license, the full moped entitlement granted with a full car licence issued in respect of a practical car test passed on or after 1 Feburary 2001 if, either:

- the car test is passed within 2 years of this certificate being issued, or
- the training course was completed after the car test was passed.

So i'm pretty damn sure that you can ride a moped without L-plates provided you have a full car license and a CBT.

A 125 isn't a moped, so no.

A moped is something that is under 50cc and cannot go faster than 30mph.
