Ive had my cx for a year, its a lardy old sports tourer..

I'm mostly happy with the old beastie, the only thing that botheres me is its tendency to squirm on corners with bumps... this is apparently due to the forks flexing, the original mudguard (which it has, apparently a rareity) is braced, but not as well as it could do with being...

Has anyone ever had a fork brace added?

Its a 20year old bike so i dont expect to be able to get one off the shelf, is it worth approaching an engineering firm to make one to fit? how much is it likely to cost?
Apparently the 650 front end will fit, this little quirk was addressed, but the insureance implications would make it pritty pointless i'd imagine (though i'd get some better brakes at the same time i guess)

I know a new bike would fix it but its not really something i can do at the moment, i dont plan on geting rid of the cx any time soon, when money allows i might get something as well as.

Any ideas?

Bottom line is that its a 20 year old bike, the best of them dont handle. You could have one made but you have to ask yourself if its worth the trouble.

If i were you i would get the dimensions for all similar bikes which are likely to have a brace and see if any of them match. buying something is allways far less hassle then having it made especially.

mandp probably still sell a fork brace to fit it.

My VX wiggled a bit. Check the assorted bushes around the rear end and grease pack them all.
