Hi everyone. ive been using this forum for information since i started my bike adventure in april last yeah and got a lot of sound advice to start it all off

i now find myself with a question that even google cant provide a solid answer, i think it requires a human touch and i never imagined this questions would throw back so many possibilities!

so what could cause such a problem?

i brought a pair of Alpinestars gp plus trousers and they arrived today in a size 50 after seeking advice from the shop selling them. im a 32 or 34 inch waist and was told these would be ok! easy right?

they arrived today and when i held them up it looked like a ladies size 10 lol tried them on and they were no where near being right.

they were labeled as 50 on tags an labels and i have now ordered a 54 pair....

put simply, could i ask i personal question and get you to reveal what size waist you are and how that measures up to the actual trouser size.

ive read that you add 16 to 18 to the us size to convert it to EU but this didn't work.

i realize this has been a long winded question but would really like some help.

one last thing, im not in denial about my waist size Wink

cheers

Ant

I'm a size 12 but in ladies gear sometimes size 18's or XL's don't fit.In answer to your question I don't think there is any set formula, I have learnt my lesson about buying online and always try it on in the shop first then buy it online if it's cheaper.

Motorcycle clothes sizing is way off the mark.

And seems to vary a lot between different brands.

Very much so - when I was less fat I was a size 10. I still had to order Hein Gericke mens XL trousers, but in spada trousers I fitted in a medium Rolling Eyes

There is no logic to the sizing of motorcycle clothing. You need to try it on to see if it fits.

I'm very skinny and have no end of trouble with trousers in particular.

I use one-piece suits generally so its not such an issue, but if the trousers I have had/own have been a nightmare to size correctly, seems to be little correlation or sense between sizing/brands. Try/return/exchange is the best and only policy from my experience.

Due to that buying online is rarely a good idea as you'll get fucked for postage/restocking by most places if you don't get lucky with a perfect fit first time.

As Mr stinkwheel says, you need to try motorcycle clothing on to find out what fits you best.

Different brands have their own interpretations of sizes.

Try on as many different sets of kit as you can to find what fits you the best.

I'd say cancel your order for the size 54 Alpinestars and then set about visiting bike shops to try on as many different sets of trousers as you can.

You've asked about waist size but you haven't touched on the subject of inside leg length.

I'm a rotund 36 inch waist. My leathers are 36 and a little lose. My textiles are advertised at xl and a little tight.

As the Stinky one said. Theres no logic. Much like buying any other pair of trousers/jeans. Differing shops have differing sizes.

so i took on board your points and visited a bike shop yesterday.

i fitted in to a 54 in the same pants and a 52 in the alpinestars race pants but they didnt have a 52 in the gp plus.

im glad its not just me thats found the sizes off and that i may not be a 38 inch waist in denial Smile

your right about the postage though 16 quid to return them but they're sending 54's out FOC

having only paid £140 for them im not too worried about sending a pair back as still saving over 100 pounds off rrp.

for future reference ill visit shops for the size then reap the savings online.

thanks for the very useful reply's
