I'm having a bit of a problem with my GPZ, would be grateful for any help/advice.

My bike seems to go through periods of (what I suspect) running on only 3 cylinders, and smelling super strongly of fuel.

I had a chat with the mechanic that usually deals with my bike said it being something like a fuel inlet?

But it seems to sort itself out and then it goes funny again.

Obv the simple thing would be to give it to him to have a look over, but trying to save myself some money.

Any ideas?

Sounds like the old GPZ bugbear of sticky or mal-adjusted float needles.

You could try using Redex or similar in the first instance, but really the cure is to remove the carbs, take off the float chamber covers and dismantle the float assembly and give it all a good clean with carb cleaner (or WD40 at a push) but everything must be scrupulously clean before reassembly.

If you're confident enough, you could clean all the other jets while the carbs are off.

Worst part of the job is wrestling the airbox back on - top tip, use a heat gun/hair dryer to warm the airbox to carb rubbers so they are more supple, and get someone to help with replacing the airbox. It is possible to do on your own but it can take hours, with 2 of you, it takes a minute or two.

Ooo okay, sounds complicated! lol!!

I forgot to add while I ride it when I get to 4,000RPM while accelerating it sounds like a vibration/clicking noise?!
(Kinda like if you put paper in the spokes of a pushbike and spin the wheel... only way I can describe)

Its only been happening while its not been running right.

I'm sure one of the guys on the kwak site will be able to help
