If I did Mod 2 on my own bike, had it restricted, put 'L' plates on it and got it down to the test centre (mate rides it, van, whatever), could I do a one day insurance to cover me? Do test centres allow this?

Obviously I would need the insurance without having my license yet, like you do with training schools.

Test centres will allow you to do your test on any bike you like as long as it meets their power/weight requirements for the particular test you're doing and is insured and roadworthy.

If you need it restricted for your particular category then make sure you bring the "proof" with you. My riding-school had a test cancelled because they'd resprayed their learner bikes and the one they brought didn't say "super four" on the side any more so the examiner couldn't or wouldn't accept that it was a 400cc.

Yes, you can do this. It's no different to doing A1 on a 125, except that you might get asked how you got the bike there legally.

Why ask about Mod 2? You need to do both modules on the same category of bike. Have you passed mod 1 on an A2 bike yet?

We've been told that Bikesure will cover you on your provisionaL entitlement on a bigger bike, then you get a couple of months (IIRC) to pass your tests. I don't know how much they'll rinse you for though.

Be aware that the "proof" of restriction required is:

For machines not on this list or where an individual machine has been restricted to comply with the minimum test vehicle requirements it will be accepted for test providing certified proof of compliance or restriction is available for the examiner. This must be a certificate or on headed paper from an official source such as a main dealer, official importer or recognised specialist in restricting vehicles. Dyno certificates alone are not acceptable.

A FOI revealed that D(V)SA HQ have no idea what they actually meant by "certified" in this context. Ask your local test centre, they're the only ones who will matter.

I did mods 1 and 2 on my dad's bike. I insured it myself with Bikesure who gave me 2 months to pass my test. I had to buy a year's policy, but it worked for me because I have since bought the bike off him.

It was £110, tpo cover, 1993 Honda NTV650, I'm 36.

You definitely need insurance for mod 2. I think it's less important for mod 1 as it takes place on a closed area, although in any event you will have to sign a form to say that you do have insurance on both tests.
