The last week must be the most unpleasant riding I've ever done. I do not like gusty wind, beating rain, diesel rising and assorted leaves and trunks lying about.

Sometimes I think I'm driving too cautiousley literally crawling round corners.

Anyone got good advice for rain, wind or both?

Cheers

Jan

Erm yeh get some Moto-X experience in, then coast the slide Laughing

I have the shittest rear tyre ever, on acceleration and on any poor surface the back does a crazy little dance, well if its wet. If its dry it takes both the above.
When it slides (which it will) dont over react.
Keep everything smooth, braking, steering, leaning, gear changes, acceleration etc.
Dont rush, but at the same time, dont nany it round bends, or you will never get any confidence. Watch the BSB sometimes when it is pissing it down and they still get their knee down. Given good tyres and skill the wet isnt that bad. You didnt actually say it slithered about in the wet. Is it just a case of due to the amount of crashes you have had and people telling you wet weather is damn scary that is making you abit more worried?
Basically drive far more defensively if you are unconfident, and avoid drain covers (smoothly, and that only counts round bends and braking, straight line they are fine as long as you dont try and accelerate harshly on them).

In short chill out, trust the tyres, dont try and ride like its a sunny day, but remember you have tread for a reason, its to stop aquaplaning. IE your tyres are desgned for wet shite, therefore trust in them a tad.

Hope that helps.

Indeed that does help cheers Smile Thumbs Up
It's just proper freaky when I step down a gear or two to up the engine breaking and the back wheel starts bucking around. I'm not sure excatlly what the tires are but there avons and don't seem very sticky to me but that could just be me and my prangingness.

Cheers
Jan

Yeh erm... dont do that. You CAN if ness do block changes, where you just keep tapping the gears down without letting out the clutch, then when you stop you (should be) in 1st.

But yeh dont forget you can slip out the clutch slower and that stops the braking being so harsh. But seriously when it is wet you have less grip, dropping down a couple of gears is a no no on dry days, on wet its almost suicidal mate. Hence the smoothness, when you drop down a gear harshly it acts like your applying the rear brake hard. Hence the bouncing and skidding. Best way to go about changing down in the wet is to let the revs droop (so instead of changing down at 5k change at 3k) which will almost nullify all engine braking. Seriously tho dont drop 2 at a pop, unless you have dont some heavy braking and the revs are very low. Generally one is more then enough. And remember let the clutch out slowly, and if it sounds like some kind of angle grinder is hacking at your engine and the rev go stupidly high, pull the clutch back in, and let out slower again when your a bit slower.

Everything smooth, no rush, no panic, etc.
Clutch is not digital, think analogue, rather then clutch is on + off, there is off, little bit on, little bit more on, little bit mroe still, fully engaged. You want to learn how to use all that to get the smoothest gear transitions.

Hope that helps, kickstart/G/any mildly mechanically minded biker could probably explain it better then me.

Regards

Ricardo

Not to mention make sure the thermal underwear and vest are worn. Oh and driving slippers and gloves. Got to be done...

Pfft smarmy goit Laughing

Cars are gits though in this weather, appalling braking, no dodgin ability, all the windows are covered in water, except the front and maybe back which are marginally less translucent. All you got that id want is a cd player. And i have my trusty mp3 player and earphones. So nur Laughing
