After having a top end engine rebuild on a 2003 Aprilia RS 125, from oil not getting to the engine, I got my bike back on Saturday and rode it on Sunday.

When I started it up, there was a lot of smoke coming from the exhaust, a lot more than before the rebuild. I went out for a ride with my dad following me in the car. He said that there was a lot of smoke coming from the exhaust and the smoke had a really strong smell.

I rode the bike for about 20 minutes and it was still smoking heavily. I would stop a traffic lights and have smoke come over my shoulders.

Many thanks in advance.

Well I'm wondering if anybody knows what is wrong with it, what is causing this excessive smoking from the exhaust.

Who rebuilt the engine?

A 2 stroke can get oil from 3 places usually;
the oil pump, the fuel ; if running premix or the gearbox if it is not
correctly sealed from the crankcase.

Perhaps excess oil was used in the rebuild and is still to be burnt off.
There may be a residue in the exhaust that is causing it.
The oil pump may be set incorrectly.
Oil may have been added to the fuel to prevent seizure at run in (this is a bad practice when used in conjunction with an oil pump.)
If the bottom end has been stripped, it may be that with incorrect assembly, gearbox oil is being sucked into the crankcase.

I got the rebuild done at a local garage, Kenhards.

When I got back home, I realized there was oil coming from under the seat and it was on the swingarm and exhaust.

I'm going to collect the receipt and other paper work from them tomorrow so I was wondering what to ask them.

Do you think that excess oil from under the seat ? is by any chance migrating onto the hot exhaust and causing the smoke.

Does the two stroke oil tank or filler reside under the seat ?

Yes, the oil is under the seat. It could well be the problem, but it just seems really heavy. The oil cap isn't a screw on, it is like a push in cap, so it might be flooding out.

Thanks, I'll see what happens tomorrow.

If you have any other ideas, please let me know, the help has been appreciated.

It sounds very much as if someone of dubvious parentage has overfilled/spilt oil or incorrectly replaced the oil tank cap and the oil is now all over the hot exhaust.
Just wash off the excess oil from bike and exhaust and secure the oil cap.
Good luck .

Possibly, the mechanic filled the oil up, I don't know what oil they used as well. I'll see what happens, thanks.
