I noticed the Hein Gericke store in Aberdeen was open today. But there's nothing online saying they're back in business. So anyone know whats happening?

Large orders going out to Hein Gericke in Germany. Sounds to me like they might have a buyer over there, but don't have anything else to go on yet.
As far as I know also, the big J&S order spoken of before Xmas didn't happen either.

As J&S? The Glasgow HG has been bought by them, as have 10 others across the UK:

Is J&S a decent shop? Can I shop there with a reasonable amount of confidence?

I believe Hein Gericke UK were bought by J&S. Well, 12 stores according to MCN and the J&S site (as above link). That'd include the Aberdeen store.

I notice Leeds HG store isn't on the J&S list. I suspect this because a massive J&S is already opposite the old HG Leeds store.

Motorcycle Monthly (see page 5) reports a Spanish firm has acquired the assets of the German firm and it's foreign subsidiaries, except the UK bit.

So I'm wondering if the Spanish firm will just use the logo on cheap gear from the likes of China or of they will still make some good kit. Say what you will about the prices, sales, staff, etc I always found HG kit good quality.

If they'll still provide decent kit I might be able to renew my HG stuff over the internet. After all, we're all supposed to be one big happy EU.

FWIW this was the scene outside the HG Leeds store this Sunday (26 Jan).

My HG gloves are knackerd after six months and 3000 miles and my HG jacket leaks like a sieve. Of course I only discover how leaky the jacket is after they go bust. I knew I shouldent have bought it. i'd sworn I wouldent go back there as their service was so bad but the jacket was on sale. Personally I think they deserved to go out of business. Aberdeen was certainly a bad shop. Probably J&S will have inherited the same staff through TUPE so don't have high hopes J&S will do any better.

It must have been a really badly run company to go under given it was german and their economy is supposedly so much stronger. How odd its having its bones picked over by a spanish company as well.

Its a decent shop as far as choice goes but in my experience, returning prematurely worn out sub standard gear was a real frustrating mission.

FWIW the Hein Gericke German webside appears up and running.

Although I cannot translate the important message on the flash screen. Something about technical difficulties with orders. My German isn't that good.

The news section dated 28.01.14 has them wanting new store managers. So looks up to date.

Appears you can got through the order process. Again my German isn't that good to complete and work out shipping.

So, if anyone knows German please let me know what it's saying Thumbs Up

how do they find investors?

I'd rather set fire to my money, it would probably burn slower than throwing it down the tubes of HG

J&S are not investing in HG. If they had already been wanting to expand then they're getting a good deal taking over existing outlets. In terms of actually investing in HG I agree though.

It says roughly that due to a technical problem they are struggling to process orders promptly. They expect a delay of about 5 days, and they thank us for our understanding.
