Had an e-mail from Triumph today asking if I'd like to take my Explorer back to the dealer for an engine upgrade that will stop any rattling (which might be annoying but is not detrimental so they say).

Thanks Triumph, That will be going back soon. Rumour has it a new engine is forthcoming Shocked .

Umm, I have Trophy too. Same engine so can I have a new one for that too!

Watch this space for my verdict on Triumph when it comes to warranty work Pass the popcorn

Its to replace the cylinder head and cam chain tensioner. The Trophy isn't affected so that one won't be going back too.

Yes you are correct. A bit of a log jam so mine isn't going to get done until the end of January. Time to rant it stupid I thinks. Laughing

I have to send in my VIN number for the Trophy tomorrow. Not really bothered if it needs a new head as I've been offered a bike of my choice while the Explorer is being done. Rocket 3 for a trial Thumbs Up Then maybe a Speed triple R!! Shocked while the Trophy is in.

Well I got my Explorer back from Triumph today complete with new cylinder head, new ECU and new center stand. Shocked

The cylinder head was what it went in for. There is a recall on the ECU's so they changed mine while it was at Hinkley and the center stand was changed because they have a history of the paint flaking off. (mine was fine but they changed it anyway).

Triumph's QC has taken a bashing!

On the way home from the last BCF BBQ my Regulator Rectifier died. I literally turned into my street and the bike died.

I took it to Triumph because there was an outstanding recall on the Reg/Rec. They took it in, also replaced the gear selector shaft and did the work very quickly. When I went to collect they just handed me the keys and said "Here, all done!". I said to the guy: "Is it all good? I thought you could take out the alternator if the regulator rectifier dies".

He replied: "Oh yeah, that was completely fried too, we replaced that as well!" Free of charge. That to me is good customer service.

and I'm sure you're going to complain about the extra 12 months engine warranty they give with factory modified bikes.

Aparently, the valves on the explorer are eating into the heads. discovered by a mechanic up in Scotland last year. cant say who. all explorers are being sorted free of charge. as you would expect. Bad Triumph, putting these out with faulty heads. Thumbs Down
Some are getting a complete new engine.

Well I hope mine was just the head cause I gave it some stick down the A5 when I picked it up from Woburn. Certainly not running in revs Laughing

Sadly in Engineering people make mistakes sometimes. The issue comes when the organisation involved refuses to acknowledge it. In this case Triumph have held up their hands and said "Yeah, there is an issue, and although the failure rate is very low we're prepared to replace the head on every affected bike."

You can't say fairer than that really.

Didn't you just get your licence back? What has the bike been doing since that, surely you could have got it to them and done before you got your licence back? Laughing

There have been no actual failures, just an increase in noise. Triumph said don't worry about it, just ride your bike as you would. It will all be sorted when we take it back.

actually sounds like decent CS. At least they held their hands up to it rather than try and fob it off.

those that called up about the recall when the letter arrived late november got a repair in january, if you didn't get a letter then triumph didn't know about the change of owner as you weren't the first owner.

Yeh I have and yes in hindsight etc, I didn't know I'd be looking at 5 months wait to be fair, if I had then yes of course I'd have got it done.

Actually the bike rides and sounds fine to me anyway so I'll wait till May, no biggie I guess.

So is this to stop the new range of Triumphs shitting themselves? Known quite a few now to chuck the rod out the side of the block, the 675's seem to the biggest culprit.

Really, I've never heard that, Source?

And as far as the 1215 motor, there have been no failures, just a fair few complaints of the top ends getting very rattly over 10000 miles. Of course Triumph are going to do something to keep people happy, it's the motor on their flagships bikes FFS.

Note, Honda never acknowledged there was a fault on their 2008 blades, one mate had two new crankshafts from them because of the whine from the engine.

I think I'd rather Triumphs attitude thanks.
