Check your policy documents, I'm sure mine lists all the EU countries plus Switzerland, which I'd imagine would be the same for everyone.

There certainly weren't any insurance booths on the Swiss border last time I was there. Thumbs Up

Swiss is usually covered on your policy along with the EU countries.

As above, check your policy.

Remember that you will need to by road tax if you go into swiss on one of the main routes or use motorways.

I usually don't bother and stay off the motorways, the scenery is better

No insurance worries in Switzerland, same deal as all EU countries.

As above, need sticker if using motorways. Also need big wallet at times, check prices in restaurants - particularly drinks. The mountain passes are much busier at the weekends but great roads and spectacular scenery. Enjoy your trip. Wink

Switzerland is part of the EU Motor Insurance Directive 2009.

This requires your insurer to cover you at least 3rd party in all EU states and other countries signed up to the directive.

Previously Croatia was party of the directive without being in the EU, EEC, or EEA.

Note that it's illegal to ride off road in Switzerland, and you need a vignette to use motorways (national roads) in Switzerland.

According to several mates of mine the Swiss 'Bill' are shit-hot on bikers obeying the speed limits, plainly their pension fund needs regular top-ups !.

I echo what was said above - I went for a day (well, 9 hours) on an Easyjet day trip as I fancied a jolly and spent 75CHF on very little stuff.

Check your Insurance Policy and make sure you are covered for the countries you will be riding through. Switzerland is usually included but for some reason Lichtenstein often isn't. I've had personal experience of this with a UK Foreign Travel policy.

Switzerland is expensive by comparison to surrounding countries.

The Swiss Police don't pick on Bikers, they hate all motorists with the same zeal. The National Speed Limit in Switzerland on ordinary roads is 80kph (50mph). Speed traps are quite common. If they catch you they tend to means test you based on occupation and value of your vehicle. If you get caught, play down your occupation. Typical On The Spot Fines can be in excess of €1000,- for not much over the limit with a similar amount to follow in the post. If you don't pay, don't go back. It is usual for a fine to be accompanied by an immediate Ban requiring someone to ride or transport your bike out of the country. A defective tyre is around €500,- on the spot.

Some beautiful scenery but just be careful.

It's not necessarily expensive. Just need to be careful.

I got ripped off to the tune of £30 at my campsite for two burgers, fries and a few beers, but the next night I went into Berne and ate in a city centre restaurant for less (for two).

It's a bit like Monaco in that people think it's really expensive, but it doesn't have to be. In fact Monaco is cheaper than the neighbouring French towns/cities.
