The event (the oldest motor race in the world) is under threat after a fatality in 2012. The Council are to make a decision on its continuation on Jan 23, the Council is under control of the Green Party Evil or Very Mad please sign the petition for the preservation of this great tradition for both cars and bikes. Please sign and share.
Thanks

"We the undersigned petition the council to accept the application by the Brighton and Hove Motor Club to run the 2014 Brighton Speed Trials on Madeira Drive.

The Speed Trials is part of Brighton’s heritage having run in the area since 1905. Thousands of people come down to the seafront for an entertaining fun-packed day out for the whole family to watch race cars and motor bikes compete along Madeira Drive.

The event has grown over the years and now even enjoys international acclaim. It has the full support and backing of the Motorsport Association and adheres to their strict rules of safety.

The end of the Speed Trials will be the end of an era for Brighton. It will have a major negative financial impact on tourism and trade in the area and mean the loss of one of the highlights on Brighton’s seafront entertainment calendar.
Please sign the petition and help keep the Speed Trials going.

A decision will be made by the council’s Economic Development and Culture Committee at a meeting on 23 January 2014.

Started by: Ruth Reynolds (Brighton and Hove Motor Club)"

Motorsport is dangerous, you can't ban it because a person pegs out. Faggots.

Agreed, I saw Roger and Charlotte crash and we knew it was very serious but I would have rode the course the next day. The best way that we could possibly remember Charlotte is by keeping racing on in Brighton.

A fatality is obviously a tragedy for the family involved. But people who race know the risks and accept them. Are they going to ban roads on the basis that lots of people get knocked down crossing them?

Signed.

The single fatality at Brighton is a sad reminder that motorsport is dangerous but should not be sufficient reason to wipe out years of history, tradition and enjoyment that this event has brought to so many people over the years.

Motorcycle racing began on the Snaefell Mountain Course in the Isle of Man in 1911. Since then no fewer than 240 competitors have lost their lives racing on the circuit, and yet the TT and Manx Grand Prix remain as popular now as they ever were.

All too often the H&S brigade try to make decisions which define our way of life, time to stand up and tell them to 'do one'.

Hadn't heard of it before to be honest, but based on this
Quote:
The family of a speed trials competitor who died after hitting a “dip” in the road at 100mph has called on the council to repair the route before allowing any future events.

But witness PC Chris Harrison, police crash investigator, said Brighton and Hove City Council, which is responsible for the road, only maintain it as a 30mph route.

Speaking after the inquest, brother Simon Tagg said: “We don’t blame anyone but would like to see the council treat the road before the next event. They maintain it as a 30mph road but hire it out for events with speeds at 150mph. They take the money knowing full well the speeds involved.”
Incompentant cunts. The cost of resurfacing a single road will be vastly cheaper then the economic impact of banning the entire event Question Question Question

The dip is minimal, about half an inch in a yard long section that hardly causes a car's suspension to deflect at 50 and it is 220 yards past the checkered flag. We go faster on far worse surfaces.

Signed, I see entire families on C90 clones bombing down rutted-to-fuck roads here every day and everything's still fine and dandy. Might as well ban eating since you can choke and die.
