Long story short, - I will not publicly name the dealer, as I am in the motor trade, I know it can take 20 years to build a reputation and one customer to destroy it..

I booked my bike into a dealer for a replacement cam chain and manual chain tensioner and any parts that looked worn when the technician got there, and a general service, as the bike is being used as my primary mode of transportation.

The bike shop came back to me regarding replacing the chain and sprocket, lots of engine bits and bob, and front and rear wheel bearings, It was more than I expected, but its a KTM and it does stand for Keeps Taking Money! Plus, as I work in a BMW dealer, I really believe in using the correctly trained technicians who are trained and versed in their brand.
The dealer in question had my bike for a week, which I thought was reasonable, and on a number of occasions came back to me for authority on a number of things, and the answer was "do it"

Anyway, As I was left with the impression these are the only things the bike needs, I had no problem to part with a substantial amount of money... However on the last day I receive a call stating there is a crack in the frame (a massive one at that) and they will not road test the bike. Rolling Eyes

So my issue is, that they have inspected the bike, and only noticed a crack near the headstock when re attaching a fairing baring in mind the technician would have checked the bike over and had his head next to the crack for the best part of the week.

To say I am angry is an understatement, as I would have never had any work don't on a bike with substantial frame damage - I do not hold them responsible for the frame damage, It feels like this was "overlooked" to get the $$$ for the job and i am left with a massive bill for a bike that would fail an MOT

Gaffa tape passes the MOT, welder makes it safe.

But yes, I'd be asking why they didn't notice this before and going in to detail on that point if their answer isn't up to scratch.

Oh and there are some good and some not so good KTM dealers.
I stopped going to the one I was local to because they were more of a 'not' (only going because it was still under warranty and such like.)

My advice is that you should put any communications in writing and if anything is said over the phone, write that down too and send them a copy in the form of a memo.

They sound like wankers! Name and shame them so others can avoid the same trouble.

I took my bike to Mounts in South Wales for a 16000 mile service once, came out worse than it went in. Another time at the same shop I had them fit heated grips. As one grip was hot and the other was luke warm I took it back strait away only to be told the grips needed bedding in (what a thick twunt!). Ended up going back again a week later to have them taken off and refunded, never returned.
