anyone else fallen in love with this thing?

https://cmgonline.com/articles/CMG03/bikes/2004Models/Triumph/Thruxton/BigP/Thruxton_lsf_road_bg.jpg

ive got a bit of a thing for your old retro style bikes, remaking them just seems like such a great idea, those ducati classics they promised, dont seem to have materialised that well, and will probly cost a bomb

you can get this thing for just over 5 grand Thumbs Up

half tempted to try and get a test ride on one to kill my curiousity

Hi

Errr, love the photoshop impression! The bike vaguely appeals, but I think I would prefer an original.

All the best

I love the looks of the Thruxton. Thumbs Up

Saw one just like the one in the pic at Box Hill a few weeks ago. Lovely bike. They say it handles okay too.

2.3 litres! 2.3 LITRES! Is there a need to have a bike that powerful, yeah, I understand that 'Cars have them, so why not bikes?', cars have more than one people in them, up to five, cars are much heavier, there's loads of reason. That, is just a death machine. How much is it dainesefreak? Although, I do like this part of it.

you have to remember its not 2.3 litres in an R1, that bike does weigh a shit load, it will still lift the front and spin up the back, but i still doubt it would impress people like G Razz

and it was also designed mainly for america, where big is better, triumph want a cut of the harley sales, it had to have a bigger than harley engine to stand any chance, and i reckon they have done well

I read something funny from a Triumph dealer a few months ago in Bike mag when they were asking about the uptake of the Rocket in this country. He said that they were doing well with the pre-orders and the blokes that had put deposits down on one originally thought that it was going to be £15k. They had cleared the money with their wives and then Triumph announced it was actually coming in at nearer £12k. Instead if saying wow that's great my wife will be so pleased at the saving, they spent the cash on upgrades/extras and didn't tell their wives.

I know how that feels, things are much cheaper in my wifes world! Wink

How much power does the 2.3L produce, and any idea what the curve looks like (I guess itll be flat as a runway!)?

Apparantly it will beat a gsxr 1000 up to 40mph! Woop-dee-doo!
I suspect if you lengthed the wheelbase of the gsxr that would equalise it, never mind adding a whole load more weight.

Though as far as cruisers go... at least it /has/ got a decent engine Smile.

I suspect the Triumph would win in most sub 100mph roll on situation as well. Basically it isn't going to care what gear it is in, while I doubt the GSXR comes properly on cam in top gear until well past 120mph.

All the best

I think the latest GSXR's are supposed to be able to lift the front in third at 100ish off the power or something stupid (though don't quote me on this).

Infact... I reckon the rocket is probably significantly lower geared than the sports bikes... again change the specs to match and the sports bikes will probably fly.

My zx9 still shifts pretty decently in top from about 4krpm (fueling messed up below that)... geared to about 150mph in 6th.

The url:

suggests it is a 2004 model Triumph Thuxton motorbike, more information about which can be obtained here:

Very Happy Yes, the Thruxton is cool. I just got a new Bonneville. I asked my dealer if he could Thruxtonize the motor. Maybe next winter.

I have a problem. I put the big touring windscreen on my bike and while it blocks the wind, it produces horrendous turbulence in the area of my head and shoulders at 70 mph. I'm thinking about switching to the smaller summer windscreen or the [smallest] bug windscreen.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.
