Got a 97 zx6r and there is no warning light to say it's running out of juice... fucking stupid design IMO, would it have been that difficult to include?

Is there an off the shelf fuel gague you can buy and fit yourself? I've had a quick look but nothing has popped up.

Will keep looking...

My bandit's the same, just record how many miles you do and decide on a point to refill.
I'll reset my trip metre every time I fill the tank and refill again at 150miles.

Yeah looks like i'll be doing the same old thing and do the trip. Aparently fuel gauges are incredibly unreliable. Not really worth it if they don't work.

Do you not have a fuel tap?

I've never cared about a fuel gauge, my TTR had none and a fairly small tank, Cityfly had none, ZX6R had none, XJ had none, ZXR750 had none.

Just used the tap... when it gets all spluttery, flip to reserve and head to petrol land.

Yeah the reserve is a good bet... What's the range on reserve though? Just curious.

You might want to have a look at the thread I put up recently on my F3 ZX6R. I always use the rule of "Fill up before 100 miles". Missed it last week, had to switch to reserve.

I've got as far as stripping the carbs off the bike, now I just need to disassemble them to clean the crap out...

On another note, can you link to this gauge you found? I'm wanting to fit one onto mine. Mostly because I want an after market fuel sender thing and don't want the fuel thing to constantly flash Smile

Just use reserve, should last you 50 miles if you take it steady - my 95 ZX6 did.

I always use the trip counter as well, fill up every 100K, which actually works out at about 55miles, the speedo's off.

I've never had a fuel gauge, just learn how many miles I can roughly do before reserve. E.G. if I can do 144KM from full to reserve on my TTR, I fill up every 100 so I have the extra sort of 30-45 km's in reserve, as well as the extra reserve.

Do what everyone else, put your ear to the tank and slash it around some.

My brother uses a stick on his CG to dip the tank. His fuel last's bloody ages on that thing. I get 80mpg, he must be closer to 120+ mpg on the same run at the same speed's and I'm sure he has a larger tank. 250 Suzuki v 125cc Honda Rolling Eyes

If reserve is 4 litres, then assuming you calm down and aim for 40mpg, you'll get 35 miles from it.

You'll probably get more if you are fairly sedate and on the motorway, but I'd be looking for a petrol station after 10/15 miles.
