Hey guys,

How long would you leave your bike without oil?

What I mean is I've dropped the oil out and Can't get the filter off so I have ordered a proper filter adaptor which won't be with me till friday (48hrs) or possibly monday (4days).

First time I've ever had a problem getting a filter off but if you know the zx6r p8f you'll know access is a biatch. Bit of forethought and all that!

Thumbs Up

A few days will be OK, there'll still be a film of oil covering the engine.

Have you considered the 'hammer a screwdriver through the filter and turn it' approach?

So long as you aren't daft enough to start it, why would it make a difference?

The bits below the normal oil level will be bathed in your new oil when you put it back in whilst everything above the oil level would be dripping itself dry even if the sump was full.

Cheers.

I've tried the screwdriver method but there just isn't enough clearance to get the screwdriver in at a good angle to turn the filter.

Can you get your hand in at all?

If you can get your hand in but can't quite get enough grip, I saw on delboy's Garage on youtube that you can:
Quickly clean and dry it
get masking tape and roll a load around it finishing with teh sticky bit on the outside - to stick to your hand
then try

It gives you less worry about holding your hand as tight.

You can't get a full hand on the filter, only really a couple of fingers. It's in a right tight space.

It's one of those where you need a proper tool. Shame is I've bought a K&N to go on so I won't have the problem next time!

I had many a lolz doing the oil on a 10R. The filter loosened using a filter cup tool but that made the filter too long to come off the oil cooler without hitting the downpipes. So... I wound it back in a bit, only to find that the filter was then jammed inside the tool Laughing.

Is the 6r also a huge PITA to change plugs on like the 10? Need to loosen engine bolts to do them in the 10.

The 7r you can't see the cam sprocket timing marks because the frame is in the way Laughing .

Fkn Kawasaki.

You dont need to put the screw driver in it - just treat the edge of the filter where it meets the engine like a castle nut and a quick tap with the screw driver will free it.

I take it you've not seen where the filter is on the P8F!

It should be fine with a filter cup adaptor, the filter is on the side of the engine on this 6R.

Not sure about the plugs, I'm waiting for them to arrive and have not looked into how to yet!
