50cc is fine, scooter (or moped) is irrelevant. The prohibition is on motor bicycles and tricycles under 50cc.
Oh, and you have to be licensed for the bike that you're on.
I mention this more or less hypothetically, but if caught with an A2 license on a bike over 35kW on the motorway, then you're committing (at least) two different offences.

I thought the law specifically banned 50cc and under, or is it under 50cc (as in 49cc and below)?
Either way, you'd have be to be positively potato on so many levels to ride a 50cc anything on a motorway.
| Quote: | Prohibited vehicles. Motorways MUST NOT be used by pedestrians, holders of provisional motorcycle or car licences, riders of motorcycles under 50 cc, cyclists, horse riders, certain slow-moving vehicles and those carrying oversized loads (except by special permission), agricultural vehicles, and powered wheelchairs/powered mobility scooters (see Rules 36 to 46 inclusive)
Laws HA 1980 sects 16, 17 & sch 4, MT(E&W)R regs 3(d), 4 & 11, MT(E&W)(A)R, R(S)A sects 7, 8 & sch 3, RTRA sects 17(2) & (3), & MT(S)R reg 10 |
I thought scooters were banned? Apparently not I reckon if you did it anyway the Police would arrive pretty sharpish and strongly suggest you get the fuck off their motorway because they don't want to scrape you up with a shovel.
One thing that does get on my tits though is that even though I've got a full car licence I can't ride on the motorway on a motorbike but I can drive on one in a car |

Highways Act 1980 Schedule 4 Class I = Heavy and light locomotives, motor tractors, heavy motor cars, motor cars and motor cycles whereof the cylinder capacity of the engine is not less than 50 cubic centimetres, and trailers drawn thereby, [...] so constructed as to be capable of attaining a speed of 25 miles per hour on the level under its own power, when unladen and not drawing a trailer.
If you can find a moped (twist and go or geared) that claims to be exactly 50cc, you can take it on a motorway. You can even tow a trailer, and you can do so at less than 25mph if it can make 25 without the trailer.
I'm saying you can, not that you should. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
